The History of Economics Society seeks to promote communication, dessiminate knowledge, and encourage inquiry into the history of economics. This collection contains membership and financial records, papers and proceedings of annual meetings, officer's correspondence, constitution and bylaws, and publications, including accepted and rejected manuscripts from the Journal of the History of Economic Thought. It forms part of the Economists' Papers Archive.

This collection documents the work of the Durham, NC environmental artist Bryant Holsenbeck. It contains materials collected over the course of her career, including media clippings, publicity, photographs, and a portfolio.

Collection contain images related to two photography projects by Sarah Hoskins. The Homeplace series contains 250 11x14 inch silver gelatin prints documenting Hoskins' visits and relationships with rural African American communities in Kentucky, originally established by freedmen in the 19th century. Her photographs include community events and activities such as hog butchering, church services, family reunions, and gatherings of charity groups. The Rosenwald Schools series contains approximately 300 color digital images of schools for African Americans built during the first half of the 20th century through the Rosenwald foundation, as well as some portraits of former students in Kentucky, North Carolina and Alabama. The series also includes images of a Rosenwald foundation-funded apartment building in Chicago, Illinois. Acquired by the Archive of Documentary Arts.

Families originally from Carteret and Moore Counties, N.C. Correspondence; legal files, including deeds and wills; photographs; many genealogical materials; financial papers; postcards; paper currency; two scrapbooks; and school papers, all relating to the Howland and the McIntosh families from Carteret, Durham, and Moore Counties, N.C. Photographs include tintypes, albumen prints, and one daguerrotype. Many legal files pertain to a lengthy court case involving the transfer of family property on Shackleford Banks, N.C. to the federal government. Oversize materials include aerial photographs and land surveys of Shackleford Banks and other family properties, and photostats of early deeds. Though several photographs and all the currency date from the Civil War, the only other original documentation on the families' Civil War activities is a signed oath of allegiance to the Union dated 1865, and a few letters referring at length to the circumstances surrounding the confiscation of one Howland's property in Beaufort, N.C. during the war, and his attempts at legal restitution. William F. Howland (1876-1951) married Mary Elizabeth McIntosh (1878-1964) in 1903. The collection contains much of their correspondence. Other correspondence includes World War I letters from a McIntosh son, Leland Carson. The addition (04-129)(25 items, 1.5 lin. ft.; dated [1870s]-[1960s]) consists primarily of materials, including a scrapbook, photo album, letters, and travel journals, kept by Mary Howland Dawson from the 1950 "Youth Caravan to Germany" sponsored by the Methodist Conference of North Carolina. Also includes two family photograph albums, with images dating back to the 1870s; clippings about various family members; and an historical sketch of Salem United Methodist Church in Garland, N.C. This addition is unprocessed and is not represented in the finding aid.

The Jewish Heritage Foundation of North Carolina (JHFNC) is an independent organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the history of the Jewish people of North Carolina, and transferred its archives, including these materials, to the Rubenstein Library in 2014. Since 2019, the organization has been known as Jewish Heritage North Carolina (JHNC). This collection consists of historical material created or collected by Jewish individuals, families, and social and religious organizations of North Carolina, and donated to the JHFNC. Types of material include scrapbooks, certificates, pamphlets, catalogs, correspondence, photographs, World War II-era Nazi weapons and military paraphernalia collected by Jewish American soldiers, and other artifacts and manuscript materials.

Joe Sitter is a collector and friend of Gaylord Schanilec. Gaylord Schanilec is a notable American wood engraver, printer, designer and illustrator. He is the proprietor of the press Midnight Paper Sales, located in Stockholm, Wisconsin. Sitter's collection includes original wood engravings, publications, clippings, printer's waste, correspondence, and other materials documenting the artwork and career of Gaylord Schanilec.

Judy Juanita (b. 1946) is a poet, author, and teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This collection includes drafts and other materials from her debut novel, Virgin Soul, as well as correspondence and subject files from her research and activism in the Black Panther Party.

Founded in 1864, the J. Walter Thompson Company (JWT) is one of the oldest and largest enduring advertising agencies in the United States. The JWT 35mm Microfilm Proofs collection spans the years 1906-1960 and consists primarily of images of print advertisements and proofs taken from proof books and portfolios of domestic and foreign JWT offices. Clients include Ballantine's, B.F. Goodrich, Butterick, Corning, Crowell Publishing, Davey Tree Surgeons, General Cigar, General Motors, Guinness, Horlicks, J.B. Williams, Jergens, Johns-Manville, Nash, Northam Warren, Pennsylvania RR, RCA, Sharp & Dohme, Shell, Standard Brands, Sun Maid, Swift, Sylvania, United Airlines, Ward Baking, and Welch's Grape Juice. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

Rena Bartos worked as a marketing researcher, advertising executive, and consultant from 1960 to 1998. She directed research at the McCann Erickson advertising agency and held the position of Senior Vice President at the J. Walter Thompson Company before forming her own marketing consulting firm, The Rena Bartos Company. Collection consists of speeches and presentations, publications, research, and correspondence related to Bartos' career in the marketing research divisions of McCann Erickson and the J. Walter Thompson Company, spanning the years 1960-1998, with the bulk of the contents from 1975-1991. Other items in the collection include video and audio copies of speeches and presentations by Bartos, a brief history of the J. Walter Thompson Company, as well as drafts of articles and manuscripts. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

Sidney Ralph Bernstein (1907-1993) was an editor and publisher who worked in a number of positions with Crain Communications, serving as President in the 1960s and 1970s. The collection represents a commemorative history project for the J. Walter Thompson Company's centennial anniversary in 1964. The history was not published. The collection consists of research files created or compiled by Sidney Ralph Bernstein and his research assistant Marianne Keating and include transcripts of interviews; notes and excerpts copied from publications, facsimile copies, correspondence, and printed material; correspondence and memoranda; manuscripts; speeches; indexes; clippings; lists; and chronologies. The collection documents the history of J. Walter Thompson Company through printed materials as well as personal reminiscences, recollections, and evaluations of the company by its executives and other employees. Topics include agency management; agency activities during World War II; and women in the advertising industry. Executives represented in the collection include: James Walter Thompson, founder of the company; Stanley Resor, Thompson's successor as president; Denis Lanigan; Howard Henderson; Norman Strouse; Ruth Waldo; and Sam Meek. Client companies featured in the files include Chesebrough-Pond's; Kodak; Kraft; Pan Am; and Scott Paper. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.
