The bulk of the materials in the scrapbook document Ms. Chaffin's training as a dancer. Her earliest materials include photographs of her childhood dance classes and performances that are annotated with brief descriptions. Materials that address her secondary education and graduate-level work include yearbook pages, photographs, postcards, programs, and clippings. Of particular interest are her programs, reviews, and postcards that she sent home from Bennington College's School of the Dance. These materials are heavily annotated by Ms. Chaffin and give the researcher a sense of the life of a student at this famed dance institution.

Includes advertising designs for festivals, rodeos, ice shows, county fairs, wrestling events, boxing, hotels and dancing, live orchestra performances, bowling, show clubs, amusement parks, and dance events.

Includes a message from the club's president, William Large, and entries into the contest that received Laurel, Silver, or Bronze awards.

Typescript report (51 pages) arguing for the establishment of an institute of mountain agriculture in North Carolina to promote sustainable agricultural practices and to avoid erosion. The report contains about 100 photographs (pasted down) from the U.S. and abroad illustrating various erosion problems and farming techniques.

Photographs depict construction and repair of dam. Photographs have captions, numbers, and dates.

The album contains pictures of Joseph Blumenstein and friends in military uniforms, circa 1941-1945, as well as family members and members of the Fayetteville Jewish community. Family members pictured include parents Fannie and Solomon Blumenstein, wife Florence "Fannie" Fleishman Blumenstein, daughter Frances Blumenstein, and Emma Shapiro and Jacob Louis Fleishman (Florence's parents).

Bust-length portrait of Cora Folsom, a Hampton College teacher. Print is accompanied by photocopies of several letters from Folsom to Day regarding his visit to the campus, as well as photocopies of images of Folsom and pages from the Hampton yearbook. When acquired, print had small tear on right side.

Russia's war versus the Turks: the meeting between the Russian and Turkish naval squadrons in the Black Sea

Folders contain printed materials collected by James Thomas, and include conference and meeting programs, reports, essays, analyses, and pamphlets, all relating to U.S. diplomatic and economic relations with East Asian countries, especially Japan and China, from about 1914 to 1938. Other topics relate to concerns about political events and global conflict in the late 1920s. Also includes ephemera such as programs and cards, with some relating to the New York World's Fair. A souvenir program with large mounted black-and-white photographs commemorates the visit of a Chinese delegation to New York in 1915.

Includes albumen card photographs; a page from a scrapbook with some mounted photographs; early gelatin silver prints, some of which are of James Thomas in China; larger modern copy prints, one of Dorothy Thomas, and one of James Thomas, seated, dressed as a mandarin, flanked by two Chinese smoking cigarettes; and eight copy negatives (safety film) of the smaller photographs.

Small pocket notebook including names and addresses of women's suffrage and women's rights societies in Great Britain. Conolan has listed the societies in alphabetical order. Societies range from political (Conservative and Minorist Women's Franchise Association, New Constitutional Society for Women's Suffrage) to vocational (Gymnastic Teachers Suffrage Society, Artist's Suffrage League) to national (Austrialian and New Zealand Voter's Association, Irish Women's Franchise League) to religious (Catholic League for Women's Suffrage, Jewish League for Women's Suffrage). Notable societies included in the notebook are the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) and the Women's Freedom League. Men's societies that supported women's suffrage and rights are also included.

Two large card-mounted albumen prints of John Lind Hemphill, Sr. taken not long before his death: in the first, he stands in front of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church (now White Oak Associate Reformed) in Moreland, Georgia, where he was pastor; in the second he is with his family, including his wife Nancy McKemy Hemphill, and his only son, John Lind Hemphill, Jr., in front of their home in Newnan, Georgia.

The earliest item is a tintype, circa 1874, of Robert and his wife Eugenia with their daughter Annie, and the latest item is a large gelatin silver print taken in 1908 of Robert Reid Hemphill surrounded by his large family and others in front of their home place, probably in Abbeville, S.C., where he died that same year. The large family group photograph is accompanied by a key to each person's name, and there is also a black-and-white glossy copy photograph of the tintype.

The earliest photograph in the folders is a portrait, circa 1868, of James Calvin Hemphill as a youth. The latest items are undated black-and-white glossy photographs, possibly taken in the 1950s, of his home in Charleston, S.C., and his and his wife Rebecca True Hemphill's gravesites in Charleston. The rest of the photographs are chiefly studio portraits of J. C. Hemphill taken through his life, with other snapshots of J.C. and his family on vacations and at home. There are a few large group photographs of editorial association members and others. There are several portraits of James Calvin with many duplicates.

Photographs of members of the Kronheimer, Lehman, Morris, and Goldberg families, consisting of individual and group portraits. Photos of note include: childhood portraits of Mattie Lehman and Carolyn Goldberg; Carolyn Goldberg and Carl Knuemann around the time of their wedding in Berlin; the Kronheimer house on Minerva Avenue in Durham; a Pi Kappa Alpha group portrait; the 1927 graduating class of the Fuller School; and printed scans of photos of Lonie Morris Troub. Most individuals in photographs are unidentified.

Contains photocopies of a Kronheimer family tree sketch, Lonie Morris Troub's reminisces her family's history and life in the south, and Lonie Morris Troub's obituary. The reminisces mention five unnamed, formerly enslaved people owned by Isaac and Rosa Kronheimer, two of whom they received as a wedding gift. Also included are speculations about how the Kronheimers treated the people they enslaved, some details about how the formerly enslaved people traveled with the Kronheimers from Virginia to North Carolina, and what kind of help they provided for the Kronheimer family in North Carolina.

Typescript reminsces from Mattie Lehman Goldberg about Trinity Park and life in Durham from the late 1920s to the 1970s. Includes descriptions of Minerva Avenue, the Kronheimer house, and residents, as well as typical food prepared and eaten by the Kronehimer-Lehman family.
