Author, translator, and teacher Norman Waddell was born in Washington, D.C. in 1940, and he moved to Japan in 1965. He is an emeritus professor at Otani University in Kyoto, from which he received the degree of Doctor of Literature (LittD) and where he taught for more than thirty years. He has translated works by notable Zen figures such as Suzuki D.T. (Daisetz Teitarō), Dōgen Kigen, Bankei Yōtaku, and Hakuin Ekaku. Waddell's papers include correspondence from: Zen teacher Robert Aitken, who was a co-founder of the Diamond Sangha in Honolulu; artist Frederick Franck; and scholar and translator Burton Watson.

Clement Vollmer joined the German Languages and Literature Department at Duke University in 1926, where he remained until his retirement in 1956. In 1918, he published The American Novel in Germany. Professor Vollmer served as chair of the department during the 1950s, as president of the South Atlantic Modern Language Association, and was a member of numerous academic societies. Includes correspondence, recommendations, faculty meeting minutes, German Department memoranda, grade books and department enrollment statistics. Also includes date books, address books and diaries kept by Maude Hugo Vollmer (Mrs. Clement Vollmer). Inclusive years are 1898-1983.

Virginia Barber became a literary agent in 1971 and opened her own agency in 1974. The Virginia Barber Literary Agency was sold to the William Morris Agency in 2001. Among the authors she represented have been Rosellen Brown, Andrew Delbanco, James Dodson, Sue Monk Kidd, Peter Mayle, Alice Munro, David Nasaw, Anita Shreve, and Anne Rivers Siddons. She has served on the Board and as President of Women's Media Group and on the Boards of Literacy Partners, Duke University Libraries, and Poets and Writers. The collection includes client files and correspondence for the VBLA's many clients during the late 1970s through the early 2000s. There are also legal and financial materials, correspondence files with other agencies and publishers, including Virago Books, and materials from Barber's work with professional organizations such as the Independent Literary Agents Association. Notable clients represented in this collection include Peter Mayle, Anita Shreve, MacDonald Harris, and Paul Ehrlich.

Collection includes log books of television advertising, news broadcasts, and other media content recorded and analyzed for viewership and other parameters by VMS. The collection also includes some logs from Radio TV Reports, a competitor firm and limited partner of VMS. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

George Vickers (1943-2018) was a policy advocate, sociologist and social activist. Collection contains materials related to Vickers' antiwar and civil rights activism, research on the New Left, engagement with struggles for social justice and democracy across Central America, and work for the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) and the Open Society Foundations (OSF). Includes research files on US social movements and on armed conflicts and democratic transitions primarily in El Salvador and Nicaragua (1980s-2000s); periodicals, election materials, photographs, and notebooks, primarily documenting Vickers' work in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua as a human rights and election observer (1980s-1990s); FBI files on Vickers and on activist organizations; writings by Vickers and others; and WOLA and OSF administrative files and correspondence. Also includes over 150 recorded interviews conducted by Vickers with Central American politicians, guerillas, social activists, and others. Organizations represented in the materials include Students for a Democratic Society, the Student Peace Union, Hemisphere Initiatives, Frente Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional, the US Southern Command, and the Grupo Conjunto para la Investigación de Grupos Armados Ilegales con Motivación Política en El Salvador.

Henry George Austin Vicars was a British Army officer stationed in India in the 1850s and 1860s. He entered the army in October 1851, and was Adjutant of the 61st Regiment during the Sepoy Rebellion of 1857 and 1858. In his diaries, dated 1853-1855, 1857-1860, and 1864-1865, he reports on the mutinies, the Delhi siege and massacres, executing mutineers, cholera epidemics and fevers, and daily life as a soldier. Entries discuss his daily routine, the weather, his amusements and engagements, his clothing, his friends and fellow officers, his travels with the army, news and rumors he has heard, sermons and other church services he attended, and his home leave in London.

The collection includes administrative files, board minutes, program and reunion materials, obituaries, correspondence, financial information, newsletters, and photographs. Collection comprises a photograph album with 38 albumen photographs (6 x 4.25 inches) pasted on sheets of thick cardboard. The album's binding features decorated wood with a Jerusalem cross. The back of the binding is marked "Jerusalem" in English and Hebrew. Photographs are numbered and feature subtitles in English and French. Photographic subjects in Jerusalem include: exterior and interior of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and several stations of the cross, the Wailing Wall, Via Dolorosa, various gates of Jerusalem, Mosque of Omar, Tomb of the Kings, Garden of Gethsemane, and Mount of Olives. Among the images of Palestine are: Jaffa, Tomb of Rachel, Bethlehem, Hebron, Tomb of Lazarus, Jericho, Dead Sea, the River Jordan, and the Tower of David and Hippicus. There is also a photograph of two women at a mill. All but two of the photographs are signed with the American Colony mark.
