Duke Union Community Television (Cable 13), Duke's student-run television station, grew out of Freewater Films' video programming group, following the purchase of a television camera. Cable 13 was the first student-owned and student-run television station in the country. Cable 13 became an official committee of the Duke University Union in 1976. It broadcasts on the Duke campus cable system. The collection consists of videocassettes and videotapes of events recorded at and around Duke between 1976 and 2009. It includes such figures as William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Nikki Giovanni, Juanita Kreps, Terry Sanford, Ralph Nader, and Elie Wiesel, as well as performances from Dance Black, the Duke Symphony Orchestra, the Duke Wind Symphony, the Firesign Theatre, Jerry Garcia, and Hoof'n'Horn. Other events include men's and women's basketball, women's crew, football, soccer, men's and women's volleyball, and Joe College Weekend, as well as news and talk shows.

Duke University's Duke Players was founded in February 1931, with the intention of providing students with the opportunity to participate in all aspects of theater. Records include production files, news clippings, press releases, newsletters, posters, and scrapbooks.

Clear Channel is a multi-media communications company based in San Antonio, Tex. Collection includes audiovisual materials; black-and-white and color photographs; glass plate negatives, memoranda and correspondence; research reports; slides; and other printed materials. Most of the images depict outdoor advertising designs and billboard locations in the Los Angeles and San Francisco, Calif. areas. A wide range of products and services are depicted, including airlines; automobiles and automotive services; banks; cosmetics and health care products; events and entertainment; food and beverages; household goods; tobacco products and travel. The bulk of images depict work performed under the names of Foster and Kleiser and the Patrick Media Group. Acquired by the John W. Established in 1864, the J. Walter Thompson Company is one of the oldest and largest enduring advertising agencies in the United States. The Information Center served as a corporate research library and reference center for the agency. Collection spans the years 1916-1999 and consists of subject files containing clippings, published articles, internal documentation, memoranda, research reports and other materials. The bulk of materials originated at the Chicago Office; the Justin White Files arrived from the New York Office. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

Suzanne Pharr (b. 1939) is a social justice activist and author. Her papers document her professional life and include writings, speeches, correspondence, interviews, workshop materials, published books, book drafts and production materials, articles related to her research, publicity about her work, and journals documenting her daily work. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.

The Duke University Marine Laboratory, founded in 1938, educates undergraduate and graduate students in the marine sciences. Part of the Nicholas School of the Environment, the Beaufort, North Carolina laboratory is also a renowned center of scientific research. The Marine Laboratory Records include photographs, correspondence, memoranda, minutes, recommendations, and reports documenting the Laboratory's work and administration. Major subjects include marine biology, oceanography, and zoology; research and study of the marine sciences; the Marine Biomedical Center; oceanic research vessels including the Monitor; and John D. Costlow, the director of the Laboratory for many years.

The Dean of Trinity College of Arts and Sciences is the University's principal spokesperson for the needs of undergraduate education. The Dean is involved in the processes of academic budgeting and in the appointment, promotion and retention of faculty. The collection contains correspondence, reports, brochures, pamphlets, booklets, meeting minutes and meeting agendas, in addition to Course Synopsis Handbooks. There are also clippings and articles that relate to broad topics such as trends in faculty salaries and student populations.

The Associated Students of Duke University (ASDU) was the student government at Duke from 1967 to 1993. It originated in March 1967 when the student body voted to merge the Men's Student Government Association and the Women's Student Government Association. ASDU consisted of an executive branch and a legislative branch. A student referendum in April 1993 replaced ASDU with a new organization, Duke Student Government, in which the legislative and executive branches were consolidated. ASDU records consist of minutes, correspondence, legislation, reports, printed matter, judicial decisions, charters, memoranda, speeches, receipts, vouchers, and other records. The ASDU records provide insight into student life during a time when students were becoming more active in university affairs. The records also document student organizations at Duke at this time and demonstrate some of the services provided to students by ASDU.

Ransom Patrick was a painter, sculptor and professor of Aesthetics and Art at Duke from the 1940s through the 1960s. His collection includes course materials, photographs of artworks, essays, correspondence and news clippings. Materials range in date from the 1940s-1960s.

Arthur Sperry Pearse (pronounced like "purse") was Professor of Zoology at Duke University from 1927 until his retirement in 1948; he played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Marine Biology Laboratory in Beaufort, North Carolina, and served as the lab's first director from 1938 until 1945. Collection comprises professional papers and photographs documenting A. S. Pearse's career as a zoologist. Formats include correspondence, writings and lectures, lab notes and data, fieldwork notes, teaching materials, clippings and printed materials, and over 2000 photographs, glass slides, and negatives. The images document Pearse's research travels, particularly in Nigeria and the Yucatán, but also in Alabama, Florida, coastal North Carolina, Japan, China, Burma, the Phillippines, Colombia, and Venezuela, chiefly during the period 1915-1935. Images are of local flora, fauna, landscapes, villages, dwellings, local crafts and industries, Indigenous peoples, and other scientists. There are also early photographs of the Duke University Marine Lab in Beaufort, N.C. Also found are many publication illustrations such as maps and charts. Prominent subjects throughout the collection include the establishment of and research projects at the Duke Marine Lab; the promotion of forestry as a scientific discipline at Duke; Pearse's role as editor of the publication Ecological Monographs; and his research interests in marine biology, ecology, crustaceans, parasitology, microbiology, biological adaptation, and forestry.
