The North Carolina Self-Portrait Photography Collection includes copy negatives, contact sheets, prints, information sheets, agreements, and voice recordings created as part of the North Carolina Self-Portrait Project, undertaken to build an archive of images and other materials documenting the experiences of African American families in the South. The photographs were assembled by requesting copy photographs from African American families primarily in North Carolina, but a few locations in Mississippi were also included. Acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts at Duke University.

The North Carolina Temple and Synagogue Historical Collection is an artificial collection created from materials donated to the Jewish Heritage Foundation of North Carolina that are from or related to Jewish congregations across North Carolina. There are administrative records for some of the temples and synagogues represented, including Temple Beth El (Weldon, Halifax Co., NC), Temple Israel (Kinston, Lenoir Co., NC), Temple Beth El (Lumberton, Robeson Co., NC), and Temple Oheb Sholom (Goldsboro, Wayne Co., NC), of which Gertrude Weil was a member. Also present are materials related to Rabbi Jerome G. Tolochko's service as chaplain to Marine Corps bases in North Carolina during and after World War II. Central themes include congregational and community events, building dedications, anniversaries, religious services, membership, religious education, and Sisterhood, Brotherhood, and Hadassah activities. Types of material include correspondence, bulletins, programs, organizational scrapbooks, directories, teaching materials, financial ledgers, clippings, and photographs.

The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) was founded in 1935 by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune to empower Black women. Hunger USA was an NCNW program that began in 1968 and worked to alleviate hunger, malnutrition, and food insecurity in Mississippi and Alabama by establishing community-run food centers and farms. Collection includes circular letters, leaflets, and brochures sent by the NCNW to raise awareness about hunger and malnutrition in the Deep South and NCNW efforts to alleviate it. Acquired as part of the John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and African American History and Culture and as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.

Collection comprises correspondence, scrapbooks, photographs, and other papers, relating to Nesbitt's career, especially his service as superintendent of health (1911-1917) in Wilmington, N.C., and public health and sanitation in Wilmington. Includes an autobiographical account of Nesbitt's medical education at the University of Pennsylvania, Bellevue Medical College and Baltimore Medical College, and his experiences as a young physician, with references to early psychiatric practices, and political and social affairs and homosexuality in New York City during the 1880s. Physicians discussed in the memoir include Austin Flint, Jr., Edward Gamaliel Janeway, Frederick Peterson, George Reuling, and John Allen Wyeth.
