Collection contains the records of the firm of Terrasson Brothers, established in Philadelphia by Antoine and Barthelemy Terrasson as a branch of their father's firm, John Terrasson and Company, headquartered in Paris and Lyons, France. Early business letters reflect the trade of the firm in grain, the furnishings of supplies to the French and American armies, and the purchase of tobacco at various places throughout the South. The letters contain information on the American Revolution, especially on naval operations, and on post-Revolutionary business conditions. Papers after 1800 concern the family of Mark Prager, members of which apparently married into the Terrasson family. Prager was owner of a trading firm in Holland. These papers contain information on Prager's trading activities until 1820, and on the family of Harriet Prager of Philadelphia. The later letters contain references to family affairs, slavery, politics and sectionalism. Approximately 100 Civil War letters describe conditions in the North.
Lawyer, politician, and U.S. Representative from Orangeburg, S.C. Correspondence, business and legal papers, and printed matter, mostly dating from 1855-1900, centered on South Carolina history. All pre-1850 papers are legal documents concerned with land surveys and transfers. A few letters written while Dibble was a Confederate soldier relate to the home front; postwar correspondence deals with such matters as phosphate mining, education, professional activities, African Americans in post-Reconstruction politics, and Dibble's opposition to Governor Tillman. Later papers display his expanding activities in banking and railroads. After 1900 the papers concern brother A. C. Dibble, and sons L. V., an insurance agent, and Samuel Jr., a surveyor and civil engineer.

After joining the Diplomatic Service in 1904, Loraine was stationed in Istanbul, Turkey, for three years before transfer to Iran, Greece, Egypt, and other locations. The collection includes correspondence concerning diplomatic matters in Turkey and the surrounding area (1906-1909, 1929, 1935?, 1938) and a detailed narrative journal by Loraine relating to Egyptian activity on the Turkish border near Akaba (Aqabah), 1905-1906.

An early 20th century vellum-bound handmade notebook, with hand-made paper, including Loraine's bookplate. With a written dedication, "To Percy with love, as a souvenir of Paris! Valerie 1904." The remaining entries, of varying lengths on pages II to XIX, are written and dated in ink, and in some cases initialled, by Loraine. Most are in English with a few in French, some are quotations from other authors whilst many are Loraine's own often pithy observations on life in general. Loraine's first entry is dated is "Therapia 8.6.'05" which coincides with his initial diplomatic posting to Constantinople. His final entry is dated 1960 November 24. In chronological terms there is a gap from 1916 until 1946. It seems Loraine put the notebook aside for a period of 30 years, which more or less coincides with his major diplomatic postings. One entry, spread over 3 pages, differs from all others in that it recounts an episode from Loraine's diplomatic service around 1907. It concerns a "semi-official warning" communicated in writing to members of the British Diplomatic Service about the taking of foreign wives. Although the entry is undated, it appears after the February 1916 entry and includes the text of a number of verses written by Cecil Spring Rice, "then H. M. Minister in Persia", as a retort to the warning. In 1959, Loraine returned to this entry in his notebook in order to put down on paper further details of the episode. He writes that at the time the written "warning" was circulated he was serving on the staff of Spring-Rice "as a 3rd Secretary."

Robert C. Poindexter (d. 1885) was a merchant in eastern Yadkin County for many years. His general store at East Bend was listed in Branson's North Carolina Business Directory for 1867, 1869, 1872, and 1884. He and his store are also mentioned in William E. Rutledge, Jr.'s, An Illustrated History of Yadkin County (Yadkinville, 1965) in the section on East Bend. In 1857 Poindexter was listed in D. D. T. Leech's Post Office Directory as the postmaster at Red Plains.
