The Beta Eta chapter of the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity was established at Duke University in 1929; the chapter dissolved sometime after 1963. Alpha Epsilon Phi is a social sorority for undergraduate women. The Duke University chapter was established in 1934 and disbanded in the mid-1960s. The sorority was revived at Duke in 1977, with the establishment of the Alpha Epsilon chapter; it disbanded in 2004. Records include manuals, composite photographs, roll book, standards, project files, and other materials created and collected by the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Duke University. English.

Alpha Delta Pi was a social sorority for undergraduate women at Duke University, active from 1911 to 2021. Collection includes published histories, a songbook, clippings, correspondence, newsletters, cards, a scrapbook, and invitations. Materials date from 1927 to 1979, and subjects include Trinity College history, Duke University history, women college students, sorority songs, general governance of a sorority, and initiation.

Ben Alper is an artist based in North Carolina. His series, An Index of Walking, won the 2015 Archive of Documentary Arts Award for Documentarians Working in North Carolina. An Index of Walking is a yearlong photographic project that explores the enigmatic intersection of memory, place, geography, and perception. Taken along the same daily walk in his neighborhood, the photographs depict the commonplace objects and spaces that comprise what could be any typical suburban area. Alper writes that "My walks have been a vehicle for exploration, contemplation, and looking; they have provided a structure in which to engage with the place in which I currently live." Collection acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts (Duke University).

Joseph Allred (1772-1856) and his wife, Rachel (1773-1856), were residents of Randolph County, North Carolina. Collection comprises primarily business correspondence, along with legal documents and some personal correspondence, for Joseph Allred and various Allred family members. The collection also features two letters written by enslaved people owned by the Allred family. There is a Allred genealogy prepared by a family member that further details relationships and events outlined in the collection, especially with regard to enslaved people.

All of the Above (AOTA) is an annual theatrical production comprised of monologues written, performed by, and directed by Duke women about Duke life. The All of the Above records contain programs, scripts, list of participants, a directors manual titled "Making all of the Above," and two mini DV digital videocassettes of the 2008 production.

Dorothy Allison (1949-2024) was an author and feminist who wrote numerous books and short stories, including Trash (1988), Bastard Out of Carolina (1992), and Cavedweller (1998). The Dorothy Allison Papers include drafts and manuscripts of her writings (including Bastard Out of Carolina, Trash, Cavedweller, and other works), personal and professional correspondence, research materials and subject files, her personal journals, and other materials. Includes some photographs, electronic files, and oversize materials. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.

Collection primarily includes four sketchbooks by Allingham, but also contains four letters, a carte de visite, and two exhibit labels. The four sketchbooks date from 1868-1916, and feature sketches and drawings made in graphite, watercolor, and pen and ink. Subjects are varied, and include English cottages and buildings, architectural features, sailboats and coastal scenes, figures, landscapes, and botanical items. The letters, dated 1881-1882 and undated, include three written by Allingham. There is one to Marcus B. Huish regarding her painting, The Tea Party, which she reports is incomplete, but she plans to finish before it is exhibited. There is a letter to a friend to whom she sends autographs, then describes her country place and garden, along with her 4-month-old son. Another letter focuses on the difficulty of finding unfurnished rooms. The final letter in the collection is written by Andrew Halliday to Dr. Watkins, regarding Allingham's address. There is also a carte de visite of English women's rights activist Emily Faithfull, with her signature, along with two modern exhibit labels on Allingham.

Advertising executive with BBDO and Uniworld agencies, and RCA. One of the first African Americans to become an executive in the advertising industry in the United States Collection spans the years 1963-2013, with the bulk of materials spanning 1980-2006. It contains primarily of research reports focused on ethnic minority (African American, Asian, Hispanic) and youth consumer market demographics and media issues such as television viewing habits. The collection also includes clippings and a 1963 audio recording, Adventures in Negro History. Companies referenced in the materials include BBDO, RCA, Chrysler and Pepsi. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

The Alliance for the Guidance of Rural Youth was a vocational guidance service organization originally created under the leadership of Orie Latham Hatcher as the Virginia Bureau of Vocations for Women (1914-1921), and later known as the Southern Woman's Educational Alliance (1921-1937). Disbanded in 1963. The records comprise an extensive set of organizational records for Alliance for the Guidance of Rural Youth and its predecessors. Series include correspondence, administrative files, project files, conference files, subject files, writings and speeches, publications, clippings, press releases, and photographic materials, which include prints and nitrate negatives. The records document the organization's evolution from its early focus on increasing vocational opportunities for educated southern women and rural high school girls to its later activities in providing county-wide vocational programming for rural youth. Additional subjects addressed in the papers and photographs include economic conditions throughout the South; migration patterns from U.S. rural regions to cities; Appalachian culture, including crafts and music; community life in the South; and employment for African Americans. The collection includes 42 matted platinum prints of rural citizens and scenes in Kentucky taken in the 1930s by noted photographer Doris Ulmann, and include a portrait of her assistant and folklorist, John Jacob Niles.
