Author of travel books on the Near East. Married 8th Viscount Strangford in 1862. Chiefly a journal of 141 pages (1859 Apr. 10-1860 July 7) describing a trip to Turkey and Lebanon, Apr.-Sept. 1859, and to Greece, May-July 1860. Beginning in Smyrna, Viscountess Strangford travelled to Rhodes, Mersin, Tripoli, Beirut, Baalbek, Athens, Attica, Pentelicus, Constantinople, and Belgrade. She described the locales, social life and customs of the Lebanese, a Druze wedding, and fighting between the Druzes and Christians. Included are drawings and other sheets laid in, including one in French, possibly by Marius Fontane. Also includes an albumen print of Viscountess Strangford.

"Stewardess" aboard the ship; resident of Grimsby[?], England Collection comprises a manuscript journal and log book (59 pgs+ blanks) authored by Thompson while on a voyage between England and Jamaica from March 25 to April 28, 1935. However, the journal actually closes with a description of her train trip home on April 29. Includes Thompson's 33 black-and-white photographs, 2 telegrams she received from a Captain Greenhill, her certificate of discharge, and an Irish sweepstakes ticket for the Derby syndicate (dated June 5) that she purchased during the voyage. In addition, Thompson copied into the journal a 3-pg informational article on bananas, written by H.C. Bower, and kept a record of the ship's log for the trip. The S.S. Tetela was a cargo and occasional passenger ship that belonged to the banana-importing firm Elders & Fyffes, a wholly owned subsidiary of the United Fruit Company.

The Women's Guild of Arts was founded in England in 1907 by textile designer and jeweller May Morris, and grew to about 60 members. The organization offered female artists an alternative to the Art Workers' Guild, the artists' association established in 1884 to encourage excellence in the fine and applied arts, and from which women were excluded until the 1960s. Collection comprises primarily 81 letters from 29 members of the Women's Guild of Arts between 1902 and 1949. There are 7 additional documents, including draft resolutions, certificates, lists, and notes.
