Collection includes correspondence, diaries, account books, daybooks, and legal and other papers, of Edward Harden, planter, lawyer, and politician, of Athens, Ga.; of his son, Edward Randolph Harden, lawyer and politician; and of other members of their family. The material concerns U.S. and Georgia politics, Cherokee Indian affairs (1840s), military recruitment in the Civil War, the 44th Georgia Infantry, military operations in the Confederacy, Reconstruction and economic conditions, the Republican Party in the south, social life and customs, genealogy, and other matters. Also includes a diary kept by Evelyn Harden Jackson during the last months of the war referring to the general alarm preceding Sherman's activities in Georgia.

She is a past winner of the North Carolina Arts Council's Songwriter Fellowship, and was also a finalist in the Triangle Folk Music Society's songwriting contest. The collection includes sheet music, lyrics, photographs, clippings, correspondence, press releases, 1 cassette tape, and 3 compact discs. The Harlem River Consumers Cooperative was a Black shareholder-owned cooperative society that operated a supermarket on Lennox Avenue in Harlem, N.Y., active from 1967 to around 1976. Cora T. Walker, one of the first Black women attorneys in New York, served as General Counsel. The collection includes by-laws, financial reports, meeting minutes, memos and notices to shareholders, newsletters and other printed materials. Materials discuss general organizational policies, seasonal and holiday matters, and the effects of a strike during efforts by Local 338 of the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union to unionize some of the cooperative's employees. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.

Abraham Hanson was an English-born American pastor and diplomat. Collection comprises 37 letters, dated 1850-1866, Abraham Hanson wrote to his wife, Lydia, and one he wrote to his father from Monrovia, Liberia, among other places. Topics include abolition, diplomatic duties, commercial affairs, emigration, shipboard travel, the condition of Liberians and his aspirations for them, health concerns, and personal matters. There are also 15 incoming letters written to Hanson and his wife, dated 1846-1866, reporting on Hanson's welfare and conditions in Liberia and Africa, along with personal travel and religious matters. Includes several condolences written to Lydia following Hanson's dearth. In addition, there is funeral sermon Hanson preached on 1848 December 10 in Wisconsin, a copy of the New York City Colonization Society's circular dated 1840 May 3, and a copy of an 1852 Liberian court decision regarding payment of tuition and provision of clothing for Robert Savage. There is also a sermon dated 1863 Dec 10, entitled "Zion's Compliance and God's Answer, Isaiah 49-16-15." Two of the letters in the collection are incomplete. Acquired as part of the John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and African American History and Culture.

Collection comprises a letter written by the United States Senator from Ohio Warren G. Harding to the suffragist Harriet Taylor Upton regarding support for women's suffrage. Harding responds to a telegram from Upton asking him to use his influence on Ohio State Senator U.G. Murrell in support of women's voting rights. Harding replies that he is "reluctant" to advise Murrell on the matter because of his previous experience with Murrell while Harding was a member of the Ohio General Assembly.

Western Auto Hanford, California, store display experiment album, 1940

Western Auto was an automotive parts and household goods variety store founded in Kansas City, Mo., in 1909 and continued in operation until 2003. The album consists of black-and-white photographs accompanied by written descriptions of merchandising activities at the store. The album documents an experiment conducted by the Hanford, Calif., Western Auto store in which store staff designed new fixtures and display cases to remodel the interior of the store and then to study changes to customer foot traffic patterns. It also includes a description of the process, suggestions on applicability to other stores, and the cost of the project. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising & Marketing History.
