The German broadsides collection spans the years 1870-1990, with the majority of items dating from the 1920s. Broadsides (single-sided announcements and texts) predominate, but there are also several diplomas, leaflets, handbills, campaign publications, political brochures, propaganda posters, and other ephemera documenting the political, economic, and social conditions in Germany, Eastern Europe, Russia, and China, particularly during the Weimar Republic. Many of the broadsides relate to elections during the 1920s and the legacy of World War I as well as the political implications of women's suffrage during that time. Political parties represented include the Socialist Party, the Communist Party, the German Democratic Party, and the German National People's Party, as well as several smaller parties. The majority come from cities across Germany, with Leipzig and Berlin strongly represented. Additional materials include Allied propaganda leaflets and Holocaust exhibition posters, as well as materials relating to the assassination of German Foreign Minister Walther Rathenau in 1922, and several diplomas, 1870-1924 relating to the Von Baudissin family. Ben Alper is an artist based in North Carolina. His series, An Index of Walking, won the 2015 Archive of Documentary Arts Award for Documentarians Working in North Carolina. An Index of Walking is a yearlong photographic project that explores the enigmatic intersection of memory, place, geography, and perception. Taken along the same daily walk in his neighborhood, the photographs depict the commonplace objects and spaces that comprise what could be any typical suburban area. Alper writes that "My walks have been a vehicle for exploration, contemplation, and looking; they have provided a structure in which to engage with the place in which I currently live." Collection acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts (Duke University).

Joseph Cable Wetherby served as Associate Professor of English at Duke University from 1947-1976. The papers consist of correspondence, printed matter, speeches, clippings, minutes, memoranda, teaching aids and other teaching materials, student papers, photographs, research notes, and writings. Major subjects include the teaching of English to international students at Duke, broadcasting and the development of the WDBS radio station at Duke University, and the Duke University Debate Team, which Wetherby coached for over 20 years. McCann-Erickson, founded in 1930 from the merger of Alfred Erickson's and Harry McCann's agencies, is one of the largest advertising agencies in the United States. It is part of the Interpublic Group. The McCann-Erickson Audiovisual Collection spans the 1980s and 1990s and consists of over 700 videocassette tapes of commercials for domestic, international and global advertising campaigns. Also included are tapes of competitor commercials; interviews with agency and industry leaders and marketing specialists; and presentations. Advertisers include: Apple computer; Bayer; Benson & Hedges; Buick; Calvin Klein; Camel (R.J. Reynolds); Coca-Cola; Del Monte; Exxon; Heineken; Kodak; Levi Strauss; Nestlé; Oxo; and Suntory. The bulk of materials consist of advertisements for campaigns in the United States, but Brazil, Japan and Germany are also heavily represented, as are commercials for Europe-wide campaigns. Founded in 1864, the J. Walter Thompson Company (JWT) was one of the oldest and largest advertising agencies in the United States. It was headquartered in New York. In 2023 the agency was absorbed into marketing and communications firm VML. Collection includes information about client accounts held by the JWT and provides information about JWT's management of its advertising campaigns. Additionally, the files document deliberations about such topics as media selection; markets and marketing; and target audience for individual advertising campaigns. The bulk of the materials, especially the older records, document clients managed by JWT's New York Office, but the work of other offices is also represented, including: Atlanta Office (Marine Corps); Chicago Office (Oscar Mayer, Kraft); Detroit Office (Ford); and San Francisco Office (Sprint). The collection includes account histories; research reports; memoranda; correspondence; printed material; clippings; brochures and pamphlets; product labels and packaging designs; original artwork and advertising proofs; slides; photographs; audiocassettes and videocassettes. Clients represented include Eastman Kodak; Ford; Ford Dealer Association; R.T. French; General Cigar; Hamm's beer; Handy Andy; International Banana Association; IBM; Kellogg; Kraft; Quaker Oats; U.S. Marine Corps; US Sprint; Warner Lambert; White Castle; and the 1964 World's Fair. Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick (1950-2009) was a literary critic, teacher, artist, and poet. She is best remembered as one of the founders of the field of queer theory. Her work on sexuality influences our continuted understanding of contemporary culture. This collection contains materials that document her scholarly career, her visual art, and her personal life. It includes drafts and copies of her published and unpublished works, her correspondence, research files, and teaching materials, as well as her visual artwork, and some documentation of her personal life, particularly her experience living with breast cancer. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.

Collection includes correspondence, photographs, slides, audiovisual materials in multiple formats (VHS and Umatic videocassettes; audio cassettes; phono records; optical discs, audio and video tape reels, 16mm film), market research reports and financial reports, print advertisements, storyboards, musical scores, cookbooks and other printed materials. Companies represented in the collection include American Cancer Society, Burlington Industries, CBS radio, Chemstrand, Doyle Dane Bernbach, General Foods, Goya Foods, Hathaway shirts, Heinz, International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union, Green Dolmatch, L.C. Photographers of Asheville, NC. Photographs (chiefly cabinet cards produced by Lindsey and Brown) of street scenes, landscapes, and tourist attractions in late 19th-century western N.C. Descriptive text is printed on the reverse side of many of the photographs. Most photographs were taken in the vicinity of the Swannanoa, Hot Springs, the French Broad River, Round Knob, Hickory Nut Gap, Buck Forest, Highlands, and Asheville. Contains photographs of the Battery Park Hotel, Chimney Rock, Hooker's Mill, McElroy Tunnel, Devil's Pulpit, Paint Rock, the Seven Sisters, the Swannanoa tunnel stockade, the Murphy Division, Devil's Slip Gap, the Western North Carolina Railroad and U.S. Mail boys. Includes several images of African Americans in western N.C. Collection also includes 4 photographs produced by Brown alone and 3 stereoscopic views produced by Nat W. Taylor.
