Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans (1920-2012) was the only daughter of Mary Duke and Anthony J. Drexel Biddle Jr. This collection documents her childhood in New York, enrollment at Duke University, and marriages to Josiah C. Trent and James H. Semans. She continued her family's legacy of philanthropy, with a focus on the arts, education, and medicine, and became civically active beginning in the 1950s, espeically in Durham and North Carolina.

Consumer Reports is a product testing and consumer advocacy nonprofit organization based in Yonkers, N.Y., founded in 1936. Colston E. Warne was an economist and consumer advocate who served as the first President of Consumers Union from its formation in 1936 until his retirement in 1980. The Consumer Reports Colston E. Warne papers include correspondence, clippings, photographs, scrapbooks, manuscripts and texts of articles and speeches, reports and other printed materials. Correspondents include Arthur Kallet, Dexter Masters, E. McCann Erickson Worldwide is an American advertising agency founded in 1930, now part of the Interpublic Group of Companies. It is headquartered in New York. Consumer Reports is a product testing and consumer advocacy nonprofit organization based in Yonkers, N.Y., founded in 1936. The oral history project was organized by Sybil Shainwald and the staff of the Center for the Study of Consumer Movements (CSCM) to capture reminiscences of senior Consumers Union staff and others active in the consumer movement. The collection includes articles and clippings; audiocassettes; biographical sketches, lectures, speeches, and other background information; correspondence and memoranda; prject procedures and guidelines; prospective interviewee and contact lists; transcripts of recordings; workflow and legal release forms and other materials that document the establishment and operation of the oral history project. Twentieth-century secret fraternal group held to confine its membership to American-born white Protestant Christians. Collection includes a broad range of Ku Klux Klan pamphlets, flyers, and other ephemera regarding Klan membership, Anglo-American values, protests against African Americans, Communists, or non-Protestant people, and promotional Klan events. Early material highlights activities of the Women of the Klan in Pennsylvania during the 1920s, including their charity work and fundraising for the Klan Haven, an orphanage. This material also includes large panoramic photographs of 1920s Klan reunions. Later materials from the 1960s are largely from the Southeast and mid-Atlantic States, and include literature, flyers, and handouts on Klan history, segregation, school integration, Communism, Catholicism, and Judaism.

Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel is an advocate for the arts, interviewer, documentarian, teacher, political organizer, and resident of New York City. Her collection comprises research files, correspondence, printed materials such as articles and clippings, photographs, scrapbooks, artifacts, and artwork, all deriving from Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel's books, educational programming, interviews, public art installations, and exhibits centering on the arts and architecture and historic preservation in the United States. The materials highlight her work with many arts and political organizations and appointments to committees such as the Commission for Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission. Also includes materials from her work as columnist and author for publications like Ms. Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, and Saturday Review, and as television producer for CBS and A and E. Topics include: art and architecture in the 20th century; artists' biographies and interviews; gender and society; historic preservation from the 1960s to the present; the history of New York City, particularly through art, architecture, and public space; media and society; social conditions in Slovakia during her husband's ambassadorship there; U.S. politics and public policy; arts programs affiliated with the White House; women and the arts; women's rights; and many others.

Reverend Dr. J. Alfred Smith, Sr. is a Black minister who served as Senior Pastor at Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland, CA for several decades. He also taught for many years at the American Baptist Seminary of the West (now Berkeley School of Theology). This collection contains recorded and written sermons, teaching materials, event files, and other papers that document Smith's pastoral and teaching career. Materials in the collection document Smith's work to bridge denominational, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic divides in California and throughout the United States. Acquired as part of the John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and African American History and Culture.

John O'Toole (1929-1995) was an American advertising executive who served as Chairman of Foote, Cone & Belding, Inc. (FCB) from 1981-1985. He also served as President of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) from 1988-1995. The John O'Toole Papers cover the years 1954-1990, with the bulk of materials dating from the 1980s, roughly the period when O'Toole served as Chairman of Foote, Cone & Belding (FCB), and as an executive with the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA). The collection primarily consists of correspondence; speeches; research reports; business presentations; and slides related to FCB management and advertising activities. The collection also includes several proofs; clippings; and a film of television advertisements for Merrill Lynch. Advertisers represented in the collection include British Airways; Clairol; Colgate-Palmolive; Frito-Lay; Gillette; Heinz; Jockey; Pepsi; Sunkist; and Volkswagen. Acquired as part of the John W. Collection combines the public relations, publicity and promotional efforts of a number of JWT entities, including the Public Relations Department, Public Relations Division, Corporate Communications, Publicity Department, Personality Department and others. Collection includes news and press releases, clippings, photographs, scripts, directories, advertising proofs, print advertisements and other printed materials. Activities represented include baking and other contests, merchandising, nutritional campaigns, syndicated television programming, and youth outreach programs. Companies and institutions represented include 4-H clubs, American Gas Association, Bristol Myers, Burger King, Clairol, Ford, Kodak, Kraft, National Shoe Institute, Planters Peanuts, Radio City Music Hall, Reader's Digest, Royal Baking Powder, Scott Paper, Standard Brands, U.S. Brewer's Association and Warner-Lambert.
