A collection of letters to Eastman from civil engineer Charles Sloane; journalist and social reformer Paul Underwood Kellogg; drama critic Clayton Meeker Hamilton; Eastman's secondary school friend Ida Langdon; an unidentified friend, Summer Robinson, and various other people (including Eastman's sister, Dorothy). Includes a folder of poetry and literature sent to Eastman by unidentified correspondents. There are no letters by Eastman in the collection.

The Economic Science Association is a professional organization devoted to economics as an observable science, using controlled experiments to learn about economic behavior. The collection consists of founding documents and bylaws of the ESA, as well membership lists, some business and conference meeting materials, and some files relating to the operation of Experimental Economics , the journal of the organization.

Community theatre of Durham County, North Carolina. Established in 1947 and disbanded in 1994. The collection includes account books; tax and insurance records; board meeting minutes (dating from 1946-1994); scrapbooks and scrapbook files, arranged alphabetically (dating from 1950-1994); posters and handbills of the Durham Theatre Guild; audio and videocassettes; news clippings and photographs; and various ephemera, including buttons and t-shirts (dating from 1950-1993).

Collection includes campaign case study and strategy summaries, clippings, photographs and other printed materials that document retail department store holiday campaigns featuring the Easter Bunny in the late 1940s. Founded in 1864, the J. Walter Thompson Company (JWT) is one of the oldest and largest enduring advertising agencies in the United States. It is headquartered in New York. The JWT Legal Department microfilmed entertainment contracts include contracts for appearances on radio and television broadcasts; correspondence; folios (typically collections of documents relating to an actor's career, or casting for a broadcast program); letters of terms; notices of cancellations of contracts; photographs; talent releases and other printed documents. Talent featured in the sponsored programming include journalists, motion picture actors, musicians, politicians (such as Wendell Willkie), sports announcers, vaudeville blackface and dance performers, writers and other celebrities. Talent-based and variety shows drew from American and international performers, including African Americans and women. Sponsoring firms include Ballantine, Elgin, Ford, General Cigar, Kodak, Kraft, Lever Brothers, Lorillard, Nash Motors, Nestle, Owens-Illinois, RCA, Seven-Up, Shell, Standard Brands, Swift, Textron, Ward Baking and Wrigley. Earl Dotter is a documentarian, photojournalist, and labor activist based in Maryland. Collection comprises 818 mounted black-and-white and color photographs documenting hazardous occupations, conditions for workers, and labor activism in the United States, and related materials such as photography subject files, work prints, digital image files, exhibit items, a large series of publications, and ephemera. A few historical photographs of coal mining settings by Russell Lee are also present. Specific occupations and topics represented by collection materials spanning many decades include: working conditions in the coal mining, garment, auto, poultry, public safety, logging, and fishery industries; child labor in the U.S.; conditions for migrant and Native American workers; the labor behind hand-harvested crops; medical care for workers; U.S. occupational safety standards and labor laws; and labor activism in support of people in hazardous occupations. There is also a series on the 9/11 Ground Zero site and first responders. Mount sizes range from 8x10 to 22x28 inches; most are 11x14 and 16x20. Acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts at Duke University.

The Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce serves the needs of businesses, non-profits, and government agencies of all sizes by helping to create and sustain a healthy economic climate. The collection largely contains photographs of Durham businesses, homes, schools, places of worship, and individuals. It also includes two bound volumes of meeting minutes, by-laws, and correspondence which date from 1915-1923 as well as material sent to members, such as newsletters.

Durham County is located in the northeast central North Carolina; it was established in 1881 from lands in Wake and Orange counties. The city of Durham was incorporated in 1866 and then again in 1869. Collection was assembled by library staff, and is arranged in rough chronological order beginning in 1868. Within the chronology, decades are broken down by subject. Formats include correspondence, deeds, leaflets, articles, events programs, booklets, maps, pamphlets, and some photographs. Subjects include: activism, performing arts, business, churches, clubs, courts, education, libraries, historic sites and landmarks, parades, city and county politics, public works, publications, real estate, senior citizens, utilities, Watts Hospital, women's clubs and women's history, preservation of Eno River lands, and the YMCA/YWCA. Materials relating to African Americans in Durham County are found throughout.

Collection comprises letters, bills, time books, ledgers, check stubs, inventories, broadsides, stock certificates, dye house records, and other materials. The bulk of the letters, 1895-1897, date to George M. Graham's service as secretary and treasurer of the Durham Hosiery Company, as do many of the volumes. Topics include machinery and supplies purchased from firms in the North, newly organized textile mills in the South, the installation and repair of machinery, the sale of hosiery, the purchase of yarn, wages offered, and the hiring of laborers.

The Durham Savoyards is a Durham (Durham Co.), N.C., production company for Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, founded in 1963 and incorporated in 1964. Collection comprises the archives of this organization and consist of minutes, reports, correspondence, programs, financial records, posters, director's notes, stage design, black-and-white and color photographs, music videocassettes, color slides, and clippings. Includes "The Savoyards, Durham Savoyards Limited, 1989" and "Mindful of the Whys and Wherefores; a Savoyard Producer's Journal" by James L. Parmentier. There are a few photographs that pre-date the founding of the Savoyards in 1963; they feature images of comic operas performed at the Southern Conservatory of Music in Durham.

The Durham Bicentennial Commission, officially registered as the Durham-County American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, was a Durham County, N.C. organization responsible for coordinating and planning events to celebrate the American Bicentennial in 1976. Collection contains materials relating to the various activities sponsored by the Commission, the members of the various committees, financial records in the collection and the participants in the Folklife and Summer Arts festivals held in 1976. The lists of potential participants and actual participants name numerous artists, craftpersons, and musicians. Included also are three oversize maps of the NC Bicentennial Folklife Festival grounds. The official name of the Commission as registered with the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration was The Durham-County American Revolution Bicentennial Commission.

Durham Cotton Manufacturing Company founded, 1884 by J. A., J. M., and W. R. Odell, W. H. Branson, and Julian S. Carr. Headquarters in Durham, N.C. Dissolved, 1940. Letterpress copybooks, invoices, cancelled checks, check stubs, receipt books, and invoices and accounts from Joshua L. Baily and Co., Philadelphia brokers who sold goods for the company. Most of the material represents the years 1915-1934. Includes information on fluctuations in cotton prices, export trade in cotton cloth, types of cloth and machinery, freight rates, salaries, workers' medical care, tenement rents, stockholders, dividends, and distribution of excess profits.

Group formed in the 1970s to draft a charter for the consolidation of the Durham, North Carolina City and County governments. Durham, North Carolina City/County Charter Commission records contain correspondence, financial records, reports, statements, memoranda, polls, minutes, maps, and other documents. Most materials date from 1971 to 1974.

Stanley Hauerwas is a Duke Divinity School professor. Collection contains personal and professional materials documenting Hauerwas's career as an ethicist, professor, and scholar at the Duke University Divinity School and School of Law. Includes correspondence, lectures, professional engagement files, committee work, drafts, publications, and other assorted materials. Collection is closed pending processing.

Darlene Clark Hine is an African American professor, historian, college administrator, and published author in the field of African American history.

Randall Hinshaw (1915-1997) was a professor of economics at the Claremont Graduate School. This collection primarily documents his professional life through his correspondence, writings, research, professional activities, and teaching. It was acquired as part of the Economists' Papers Archive.

Susan Hill is a North Carolina native, social worker, activist for female reproductive rights, and founder of the National Women's Health Organization. Collection includes newspaper clippings related to abortion and women's health issues, records from the National Women's Health Organization, and audiovisual material. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.

This collection centers around John Wetmore Hinsdale (1843-1921), a successful lawyer and businessman who served in the Confederate army. His son, John Wetmore Hinsdale, Jr., was also a lawyer and politician in North Carolina. Correspondence, Civil War diaries, newspapers clippings, C.S.A. War Dept. records book, and other papers, of a family of lawyers, of Raleigh and Fayetteville, N.C. Includes material on Confederate generals Theophilus Hunter Holmes, William Dorsey Pender, and James Johnston Pettigrew; schools, education, railroad taxation, and legislation, government and politics in North Carolina, particularly during the 1930s; and medical practice in Virginia ca. 1900. Persons represented include Ellen Devereux Hinsdale, John Wetmore Hinsdale, and John Wetmore Hinsdale, Jr.
