Established in 1926, the Divinity School is one of 13 seminaries founded and supported by the United Methodist Church, and attracts students from around the nation and several different countries. The Divinity School has from its beginnings been ecumenical in aspiration, teaching, and practice. This collection contains information and materials documenting the operations of the Divinity School, including the activities of its deans, faculty, students, as well as various councils, committees and organizations within and associated with the school.

Founded in 1926 as the first of the university's graduate professional schools, the Divinity School attracts students from around the nation and several different countries. One of 13 seminaries founded and supported by the United Methodist Church, the school has from its beginnings been ecumenical in aspiration, teaching, and practice. With many diverse theological perspectives, students find common ground through immersion in Scripture and the church's tradition for addressing the challenges of faith in today's world. Collection contains subject files relating to the Divinity School at Duke University. Some major topics include admissions, sermons, symposiums, continuing education, field education, student groups, and other topics. Video cassettes and audio cassettes are also present in the collection.

The Divinity Student Council (DSC) is a student organization within the Divinity School that coordinates and assists students and other student organizations within the school by approving the creation or affiliation of groups as official DSC student gourps, assisting in the planning and communication of events and activities, representing the needs and concerns of the student body to the administration of the Divinity School, discovering and responding to the needs of the student body, and collecting dues and other monies for these purposes. The Divinity Student Council Records consist of materials related to the functions of the Divinity School Council, especially in the planning of events and activities, the election of representatives, and its work with affiliated groups.

The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to promote and enrich students' education through teaching, mentoring, advising, and counseling by way of on-going direct contact with students in their everyday lives. The division was created in the summer of 1979 and was placed in under the supervision of William J. Griffiths, Vice President for Student Affairs. This collection contains reports, department newsletters, and materials related to the Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, student activities, student health, and career planning.

Collection contains two personal letters (1863, 1864) written by Civil War Confederate captain Columbus H. Dixon to his wife, discussing troop activities and smallpox in his company. Accompanying the letters are a pocket bible owned by Dixon; two calling cards; a small photograph album, possibly a "friendship" album, containing three albumen cartes-de-visite and five tintypes; and twenty-three loose cartes-de-visite, cased ambrotypes, and tintype portraits of members of the Dixon, Jackson, and Allison families of North Carolina. Among the portraits are Columbus H. Dixon as a young man; his wife Love Ann Dixon; their daughter Sarah and her husband, Andrew Campbell Jackson; their son John Kelly Dixon; John Dixon's wife, Hester, and their sons, Kay Dixon and Arthur Mills Dixon. Also included is Hugh J. Allison, originally from South Carolina, second husband of Love Ann Dixon. There are quite a few unidentified individuals. Photographers' imprints often appear on a number of the cartes-de-visite portraits.

Diya supports the cultural, social, and political development of South Asian and South Asian-American students. Contains the records of the Diya, the South Asian American Association of Duke University, from 1995-2001. Types of materials include a short history, agendas, minutes, budgets, correspondence, a constitution, events reports, election materials, and programs. Major subjects include South Asian students at Duke University, South Asian-American students at Duke University, student group governance, South Asian culture, and South Asian-American culture. Diya is a member of Spectrum, an intercultural coalition of student leaders and organizations at Duke University.
