Description from Frey: Autograph manuscript, written in pencil on one sheet of paper, about 9x5 inches, one side only; twelve lines, slightly revised in ink. In a board folder. Notes on the poetry of Gerald Massey (Camden Edition, vi, 157).

This folder includes the following items related to slavery: a letter dated January 8, 1854, negotiating the hire of enslaved men for public works; a letter from R.E. Mausen (Lynchburg, Virginia) to Davidson dated August 14, 1857, discussing Dr. Frederick Cousins, a free Black physician seeking payment from the estate of Mr. Salling(?) for the treatment of an enslaved man named Henry.

Correspondents include Mitchell Henry, Alexander Henry, William Elder, M.D. Mutter, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jeffries Wyman, Charles-Eduoard Brown-Séquard, Auguste Duméril, and Jean Léon Soubeiran.

Includes an information folder about John Gould Papers at Maine Historical Society, and a folder of letters, 1853-1861 1st Maine Regiment.
