William H. Willis was Professor and Chair of the Department of Classics at Duke University. Collection contains approximately 6000 travel slides from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East dating 1950s-1970s.

William Hyde (1783-1861) and son William Hyde Jr. (1808-1873) were physicians of Stonington, Connecticut. This collection consists primarily of financial records (1841-1865) containing the names and treatments of patients in Connecticut and surrounding states, as well as a petition to Congress related to the Crittenden Compromise, and the elder Hyde's 1805 medical certificate.

William Ivey Cranford was Dean of Trinity College. He resigned as Dean on June 4, 1917 and was succeeded by William H. Wannamaker. Collection contains notebooks, correspondence, notes, transcripts and manuscripts. Material ranges in date from circa circa 1889-1945, with many of the materials undated.

Collection features the photographic work of African American photographer, sculptor, and professor of art William J. Anderson (1932-2019), from his earliest years as an art student in the 1960s, to the late 2000s. Fifty-one large black-and-white gelatin silver prints are accompanied by over 500 negatives spanning his career, as well as contact sheets, slides, and smaller photographs in black-and-white and in color. Anderson's images primarily document the southern U.S., with a focus on portraits of African American adults and children, families, the elderly; church gatherings; jazz musicians; poverty and homelessness in the city and country; life on the Sea Islands; and political rallies, riots, and Civil Rights movement events. Two significant bodies of work were taken at Daufuskie Island and a recreated African Yoruba village, both in South Carolina; there are also images are from Mexico, Central America, and France. Also included are photographs of his sculptures and exhibit openings. as well as professional correspondence, fliers and posters chiefly relating to exhibits, and a sketchbook from about 1957. Acquired as part of the John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and African American History and Culture.

Dr. William J. Williams and his wife, Irene Leslie Sands Williams, a nurse, were Southern Baptist medical missionaries stationed at Ogbomosho Baptist Hospital, Nigeria from 1944 through 1984. The couple also worked in Gaza and Kurdistan, and were active in several Baptist churches in the United States. This collection contains their diaries, photographs, correspondence, and other items documenting their work and family life as Christians, medical personnel, and educators.

William Baumol (1922-2017) was the Harold Price Professor of Entrepreneurship, Emeritus at New York University and Professor Emeritus of Economics at Princeton University. This collection primarily documents his professional life through his correspondence, writings, research, and professional and faculty activities. It forms part of the Economists' Papers Archive.

Dr. William J. Covington (1852-1917) was a physician based in Cartersville (Bartow County), Georgia. Collection consists of two account books of 200 pages each, with entries specifying his patients' names, race, dates, types of consultations, fees charged, and payments, which included cash as well as services and goods. Covington visited local white and African American persons. Procedures noted include many obstetrical visits, tooth extractions, wounds, minor operations, and at least one explicitly noted abortion for which he gave chloroform. Medicines are rarely named. Two informal notes from patients and a few other laid-in items are included. Acquired as part of the George Washington Flowers Collection of Southern Americana.

William Frazer was a professor of economics at the University of Florida. This collection contains material related to economist Milton Friedman, including interviews conducted by Frazer. It forms part of the Economists' Papers Archive.

Employee of the Lepetkatta Tea Co., Ltd., in Barbaru, Assam, India. Cole signed his letters "Johnson." Collection comprises weekly letters Johnson wrote to his parents in England while he served as an engineer for a tea estate, and provides commentary written from a late-colonial perspective. There is information regarding the management of the tea estate, tea manufacture, tea prices and trade, and the transformation of work processes and personal lives by mechanization, the introduction of electricity, and brick making. In addition, Johnson wrote about local customs, labor, wildlife, weather, religious festivals, disease outbreaks (esp. cholera), and Indian politics. He also wrote about various engine repairs he undertook; transportation; his favorite pastimes (including hunting and playing polo); his various horses and pets; medical and dental treatments; people he met; as well as his activities in the volunteer British military guard, where he participated in military tests, drills, and sports, and served as Farrier Sergeant. His final letters contained extensive commentary on England's role in World War I, as well as the impact of the war on Assam. Includes a few postcards, one photograph, a clipping, and a tea invoice. There is also one undated letter written to Johnson by a native missionary who requested assistance.

Rhodes scholar and lawyer of Asheville, N.C. Collection is divided into the following categories: Correspondence (1815-1969, some transcribed); Writings (1682-1965); Speeches (1896-1965); Miscellany (ca. 1908); Clippings (1792-1975); Printed materials (1865-1977); Volumes (1886-1954); Pictures, late 19th and early 20th centuries; and an Alphabetical file (1787-1977), arranged by topic. Most of the material spans the years 1900-1960. Included are personal correspondence and materials relating to Cocke's political and civic interests; family correspondence and photographs; clippings; and scrapbooks. Cocke's many correspondents include Sam Ervin, B. Everett Jordan, and Terry Sanford. Correspondence topics include the Democratic Party; life as an American law student in England; English law compared to American law; and travels in Europe. Some letters refer to Thomas Wolfe, whom Cocke knew.

William Kenneth Boyd (1879-1938) was a historian, professor, and director of the library at Duke University. During his career at Duke and Trinity College, he published widely and helped to collect and preserve personal papers and books about Southern and North Carolina history. The William Kenneth Boyd papers include correspondence, diaries, financial and legal materials, writings, notes, student papers, photographs (including tintypes), and other materials related to the personal and professional life of Boyd. Major correspondents include N. B. McDowell, Pat LeGrand, Marion Colley, and John Spencer Bassett. There are also letters from W. E. B. Du Bois and other prominent African Americans. English.

William Klenz was an associate professor in Duke University's Department of Aesthetics, Art, and Music from 1947-1966. Collection contains sheet music and an unpublished manuscript by William Klenz entitled The Elements of Music Theory, 1960. A later addition from Klenz's mentee and collaborator, Geoffrey Simon, contains manuscripts for Pacem in Terris, a cantata for mixed voices and organ (dated 1965), as well as an original performing score for Toccata ("Carillon"), dedicated to Simon (dated 1959 and 1962).
