Shows the outer doors of a French establishment offering the services of wet-nurses, two of whom are seated with infants on benches under windows with the signs "Nourrices sur lieux" and "Nourrices de province." A woman in elegant street clothes stands nearby, talking to a wet-nurse.

Title comes from penciled note on page from book with illustration. Title under illustration states that heroic doctor, who seems to be performing mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, died "for an unknown child."
