Xie Hui (b.1937) is a resident of Jiujia Village, Guowang Town, Fengxiang County, Baoji City, Shaanxi Province. In this interview, Xie recalls experiences during the Great Leap Forward and the Great Famine. At that time he was still in school and went washing iron sands, and studied while doing labor. In this interview, Duan remembers life in the past. In 1960 he finished middle school, and the canteen was not bad to the students, but there was not much to eat at home. He still persisted to finish high school. He started working in 1963 and became a middle school teacher. In 1966 during the Cultural Revolution, he took the students to Beijing to see Chairman Mao. Later the school was revoked and he went logging for several years before getting back to teaching.
