William Klenz was an associate professor in Duke University's Department of Aesthetics, Art, and Music from 1947-1966. Collection contains sheet music and an unpublished manuscript by William Klenz entitled The Elements of Music Theory, 1960. A later addition from Klenz's mentee and collaborator, Geoffrey Simon, contains manuscripts for Pacem in Terris, a cantata for mixed voices and organ (dated 1965), as well as an original performing score for Toccata ("Carillon"), dedicated to Simon (dated 1959 and 1962).

Collection has personal and business correspondence of William Law, the Dubose family, and of Cyrus Bacot, with whom Law was connected by marriage. As captain of the Black Creek Militia, 1813-1820, Law's papers include muster rolls, accounts of courts-martial, lists of absentees with their excuses, and numerous orders. Law's plantation records are confined to frequent lists of slaves, accounts of cotton planted and produced, and weights of hogs killed. The bulk of the papers is concerned with Law's activities as a merchant in partnership with Daniel Dubose, include records of large amounts of cotton sold to Charleston commission merchants, of turpentine and bricks sold, and papers, bills, receipts, account books, daybooks, cashbooks, and ledgers. Included also are an account book of lumber sold by Law and Bacot, and letters and papers showing Law's activities in the temperance movement and the Presbyterian Church. Personal letters, mostly post 1839, include letters of sympathy at the death of Law's wife in 1839, frequent letters from member of the Cooper and Dubose families, and letters from Law's brother, James Robert Law, who was often in financial difficulties. J. R. Law was a planter in the Sumter District of South Carolina and in Madison County, Fla., after 1848. Miscellaneous materials include a description of the Alabama River and environs, 1815, accounts of trips to Red Sulphur Springs and other springs in Virginia, 1835, and Civil War letters from William Law's son discussing camp life.

William Lemuel Clegg was a Methodist minister in the North Carolina Conference and a Duke University graduate and Trustee. Collection contains sermons, notes, clippings, diaries, photographs, and printed material from Clegg's student days at Duke University (Trinity, 1924; Divinity, 1930); and his career as a Methodist minister and Burlingon District Superintendent of churches in the North Carolina Conference. Clegg was elected a Trustee at Duke University in March 1961, but passed away suddenly at a Duke football game in Durham, N.C., November, 1961.

William L. Wipfler (1931-2018) was an Episcopal priest and human rights advocate. The William L. Wipfler papers span 1890 to 2018, with emphasis on the period between 1964 and 1994, and consist of materials produced or collected in the course of Wipfler's career as a priest, missionary, and human rights advocate. Much of the collection stems from Wipfler's tenure at the National Council of Churches (NCC) and reflects ecumenical efforts to bring attention to political repression throughout Latin America, and includes: documents, serials, and bound volumes as well as some audiovisual materials created by the NCC and other organizations; writings and presentations by Wipfler; correspondence addressed to him; and a small number of photographs. Publications, documents, and presentations connected to Wipfler's graduate studies and to his missionary, pastoral, and broader advocacy work are also present.

Sir William MacGregor (1846-1919) was governor of Lagos Colony, Nigeria, between 1899-1904. Correspondence sent to Sir William MacGregor primarily during his tenure as governor of Lagos Colony, Nigeria. One letter was written from Lagos in 1918. Topics include the new government when Northern Nigeria became a British protectorate, the West African Frontier Force, water sourcing, the rubber trade, and liquor traffic. All letters are signed and the majority are manuscript, except for two that are typed. Includes one black-and-white 6x10 cm photograph of an Nigerian family outside their hut.

The Du Bois family and the related Gomer family identified as African Americans of mixed-race descent and were based in Massachusetts and Iowa. Collection consists of eleven albumen and early gelatin silver photographs dating from the early 1860s to the early 1910s, featuring portraits of Alfred Du Bois (circa 1833-?), father of African American author, educator, and activist W.E.B. Du Bois (1868-1963); Nina Gomer Du Bois (circa 1870-1950), wife of W.E.B. Du Bois; and Nina Yolande Du Bois (1900 or 1901-1961), daughter of W.E.B. and Nina Du Bois. Other images are of unidentified women and children, some African American and some of indeterminate race. There are also two group photos: an elementary school class that includes W.E.B. Du Bois as a child; and one of the Carnegie Hall Conference "Committee of Twelve," all African American men, with Booker T. Washington and other men and women. Acquired as part of the John Hope Franklin Research Center for African and African American Culture and History at Duke University.
