Duke University Professor of English and Fulbright-Hayes lecturer at the American Studies Research Centre, Hyderabad, India. Collection contains correspondence, printed material, and materials relating to the journal publishing process. There are also a few journals, notes, and writing drafts. The correspondence pertains chiefly to the Jay B. Hubbell Center for Literary Historiography at Duke University, with many letters written by Budd for the purpose of fundraising, acquiring scholars' papers for the Center, and thanking individuals for their contributions and support. Other correspondence relates to the Modern Language Association, its American Literature Section, the Norman Foerster Award, the formation and activities of MLA's divisions, and the place of American literature in India. Collection contains correspondence, account book, memorandum book (1858), notebook (1852), prescription book (1852), plantation records, and other papers (chiefly 1840-1878), of Louis Manigault and of members of his family. The papers contain information on Charleston, South Carolina, including social and economic conditions, student life at private schools, and the fire of December, 1861; management of a rice plantation, with comments on the transition from slave to free labor; and travel in Paris, London, Brussels, and other places in Europe. Includes a few Civil War letters, an account book of Manigault while at Yale, and letters from a family member at school at the Lyceé Impérial in Paris.

Louis Narcisse Baudry des Lozières was a white French soldier, advocate, and author, of Paris, France. Correspondence and documents, mainly dating from 1770-1825, regarding Baudry des Lozières' career in French military and diplomatic service in Hispaniola and elsewhere.

Papers include a letter requesting the transfer of a relative; a note on his work on rabies; autograph manuscript notes on a text by Edou. Dumas, which refer to incorrect calculations in Lavoisier's work; and six pages of holograph manuscript notes, corrected by Pasteur, on the proceedings of the Academy of Medicine, Paris, March 19, 1878, which relate to his work on anthrax.

Dr. Loy Connell Smith (1925-1968) and his wife, Eunice Andrews Smith (b. 1928), were Southern Baptist missionaries to Nigeria from 1959 through 1968. Collection includes family correspondence, photographs, hospital publications, and audiovisual material from the Smith family's time as missionaries in Nigeria. Contains information about the death of Dr. Loy Connell Smith in a car accident and the Smith family's subsequent return to the United States.

Lucinda Marshall is a poet and a feminist activist. The collection consists of the saved copies of blogposts for various feminist websites run or written by Marshall, some of Marshall's other writings, interviews, as well as miscellaneous administrative and editorial materials for her offline projects and activities. Lucius A. Bigelow (1892-1973) served as a professor in the Department of Chemistry at Duke University from 1929 to 1961. Papers of Lucius A. Bigelow include correspondence, class examinations and procedures, research papers, research status reports, and photographs during his career as a professor of chemistry at Brown University and Duke University. Major subjects within the papers are fluorine chemistry, organic chemistry, chemistry education, and research conducted for the Manhattan Project, the Office of Naval Research, and the Army Research Office.
