Publications of Agudat Yisra'el, an ultra-orthodox, non-Zionist organization, which was founded in Eastern Europe at the beginning of the twentieth century in order to defend the Jewish traditional way of life, and has eventually become part of the political system in the State of Israel.

The following description does not include references to every person, place, or topic mentioned in Webb's journals, but sufficient detail is provided to indicate the richness of their contents and to serve as a guide to them.

As a 2002-2003 Lewis Hine Documentary Fellow, Fattal became a documentary researcher for the Children's Rights Centre (CRC) in Durban, South Africa from February 2003 to August 2004. The CRC, initially a peace building organization during the violence in KwaZulu-Natal in the 1980s and early 1990s, has grown into a national non-governmental organization mobilizing and advocating for children's rights in every sector of South African society. Fattal's assignment was to explore challenges to children's rights in a qualitative, visual and participatory way, which he undertook over sixteen months by way of traveling to and stay with various households. While staying with these families, he worked with the children leading a series of discussions about photographs in their everyday environment and taught them the basics of framing, lighting, and operating a camera (which they then taught to their family members). Fattal's project (entitled "Images of Childhood in South Africa Ten Years after Apartheid" ) consists of photographs in color that he took, and photographs in black and white that children and their parents or caregivers took. Various family members would tell stories about the images they would make, and these narratives are included below with the captions. (Note: all names and specific locations have been changed by Fattal.)

Chiefly typed, professional correspondence to and from Roper, including telegrams, memoranda and carbon copies of Roper's outgoing mail. The bulk was generated during Roper's tenure as Secretary of Commerce. A variety of other material scattered throughout the files includes printed material in the form of pamphlets, booklets, and serials; press releases from the Department of Commerce; reports; addresses by Roper and others; charts and graphs; organizational records from various groups including minutes, budgets, and agendas; clippings; and photographs. A series of folders contains first day covers given to Roper by Postmaster James A. Farley. There is a small amount of personal correspondence and financial information. Two volumes of correspondence are at the end of the series. They are a letterbook of congratulations upon Roper's appointment as Secretary of Commerce with copies of Roper's replies, and "Special Letters of Congratulation to Daniel C. Roper, March 4, 1933," with Roper's replies. Cross-reference sheets prepared by Roper's staff are found frequently throughout the series, many of which appear to refer to a separate set of files not in this collection.

The Alphabetical Files are arranged into the following categories: Addresses, Administration, Annual Reports, Budget, Correspondence, Curriculum, Departmental Studies and Reports, Facilities, History, Photographs, Publicity, Recreation, Staff Meetings, Task Force and Curriculum Committee Action, and Women's Athletics. Within each of these subsections, materials are arranged either chronologically or alphabetically. The original arrangement of the materials has been maintained as much as possible.

Includes correspondence, clippings, memoranda, and printed materials. Within this series are letters and documents which pertain to Sydnor's teaching posts at Duke University and elsewhere, his tenure as chairman of the History Department at Duke University, and his involvement in various professional societies. Also included are materials which document Sydnor's role as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Office of Chief of Military History for the United States Army. Arranged alphabetically by either correspondent or subject.

The largest in the collection, this series consists primarily of correspondence and interview notes with various people to whom Carr wrote while doing research for her biography of McCullers. Among the many writers, artists, and friends of McCullers that Carr contacted, there are Edward Albee, W.H. Auden, Djuna Barnes, Simone de Beauvoir, Elizabeth Bowen, Salvator Dali, Greta Garbo, Graham Greene, Christopher Isherwood, and Alberto Moravia. While many of the people Carr addressed refused to cooperate with her biography, numerous others offered their assistance, and the series includes significant material from and about David Diamond, Jordan Massee, Edwin Peacock, Mary S. Tucker, and Tennessee Williams. The series is arranged alphabetically by the last name of the correspondent, but is preceded by four folders with general information, including addresses and notes about the people represented in the series.
