Materials in this subseries consist of Carolina Justice Policy Center correspondence with incarcerated people and attorneys as well as research on individual cases. The folders may include correspondence (to and from inmates and attorneys), newspaper clippings, and case information. Some folders are restricted due to privacy concerns for individuals who are still living.

Files contain a variety of information and advocacy for the elimination of the death penalty for juveniles, including CJPC's work on HB 541 in 1987 (No Death Penalty for Juveniles). Most of the files include articles, legislative bills, voting records, thank-you cards, reports, work on individual cases, clippings, and editorials. Some notable items are a letter of solidarity written and signed by individuals on death row and several small photos of a rally by North Carolinians Against the Death Penalty.

These materials document CJPC's efforts to make the death penalty illegal for people with mental disabilities, and culminated in the proposal of two bills, SB 334 in 1987 and HB 1005 in 1991. Folders contain materials such as legislative information, research and statistics, articles, committee meeting minutes, handouts, media and press information, and fact sheets. A video in this series is from an Amnesty International forum on mental disabilities and the death penalty.

Materials focus on CJPC's efforts to help bring about a moratorium against the death penalty (eventually passed in 2003). Contents include information about the death penalty, news articles, correspondence, contact lists, voting lists, fact sheets, flyers, pamphlets, resolutions, and legislative materials. Much of the information centers on the status of capital punishment in North Carolina though there are items related to other places. There is also a news article about Lao Rubert and CJPC's efforts to bring about the moratorium and CJPC's alternative penalty programs.
