Series contains audio and moving image materials in audio cassette, LP, CD, VHS, Betamax, and DVD formats. Consists chiefly of recordings of John Hicks's concert performances from the 1980s through the 2000s, but also contains rehearsals, interviews and piano lessons with Hicks, and a DVD shown at Hicks's memorial service.

John Hicks papers, 1950-2015 26 Linear Feet

John Hicks was an African American jazz pianist, composer, and educator professionally active in music since the 1960s. Papers consist of compositions composed, arranged, or performed by John Hicks or Elise Wood; and professional and personal files comprising business records, press materials, photographs and correspondence. There are some photographs and clippings relating to his father, John Hicks, Sr, a Methodist minister. Also included is a large collection of audio and moving image materials in audio cassette, LP, CD, VHS, Betamax, and DVD formats, consisting chiefly of concert recordings of Hicks from the 1980s through the 2000s, but also containing rehearsals, interviews, and piano lessons with Hicks and his band members, including flautist Elise Wood.

Two pincushions made by the "Irish nurse" of Jeffrey Arthur Lefroy. One was made in 1850 and the other was made upon the occasion of Jeffrey Lefroy's birth in 1852. There is also a note describing the latter, which was gifted to Jeffrey's daughter, Helena Lefroy, upon her birth in 1878.

Two Caroline Clifford Nephew student notebooks, one composition and one geography, both with many hand-drawn illustrations, dated circa 1820. The composition notebook includes a letter tipped in from Rose Caperton to Mary Bingham, Sallie Bingham's mother, indicating that Caroline Clifford Nephew was Mary's great grandmother. Also tipped in are a pencil drawing, an ink drawing, and a medal in a small paper envelope with this text engraved: "Grammar, Rhetorick, Composition, Recitation, Music, & Drawing. Caroline C. Nephew #1 in the 2nd Class".
