Manuscripts, typescripts, and drafts of Garrett's published works, some bearing notations by Garrett. Categories include: Monographs (arranged chronologically in order of publication date of work), Dramatic Works and Short Stories (arranged alphabetically by title), Reviews (arranged alphabetically by the name of the author of the work being reviewed), Literary Essays and Biographies (arranged alphabetically by title), and Miscellaneous Writings and fragments (unarranged).

Consists chiefly of unpublished stories and memoirs as well as published writings. Also included are several academic pieces (other academic writing, such as lectures, can also be found in the Author Files Series). The manuscripts include work Gohdes did on an anthology, "True Stories about Indians from St. Nicholas Magazine and The Youth's Companion." Materials related to this project include original introductory material written by Gohdes as well as marked-up pages from the two magazines indicating which stories he hoped to include.

This subseries contains original writings by Hubbell, both published and unpublished. It is divided into three sections: Manuscripts, A-Z; Publications Files; and Printed Materials. Manuscripts of lectures, articles, student handbooks, conference and meeting papers, and reminiscences written by Hubbell of literary figures and critics (including Frank Clyde Brown, Robert Frost, Lewis Leary, John H. McGinnis, and Carl Sandburg) can be found in the Manuscripts, A-Z folders. Reminiscences are filed alphabetically by the subject's last name. The Publications Files mainly consist of correspondence and related bureaucratic materials concerning Hubbell's published works, and are arranged alphabetically by title. An exception is the inclusion of a copy of his memoir of his wife, Lucinda. The Printed Materials files include reprints of Hubbell's articles and essays as well as reprints of reviews of his writings. The files also include a scrapbook in which reprints and clippings of newspaper articles, Hubbell's writings, and reviews of Hubbell's writings can be found. Folders arranged in alphabetical order by folder title.

Series houses works, chiefly play scripts, written by Hubert Hayes. These include the popular plays Tight Britches and Thunderland, as well as many short plays, some poems, radio scripts, and minstrel and variety shows, chiefly dating from 1932-1950. Many of these works center on romantic and Appalachian themes. As she was also an actor, Leona Hayes served as Hayes's supporting editor and critic; her comments are sometimes included in handwritten notes on the scripts.

Primarily handwritten and personal essays documenting peace activism and the nuclear disarmament movements in the United States and Japan.

Includes copies and off-prints of papers and books by other researchers, most of them annotated by Hurwicz, along with some correspondence. Researchers include Kenneth Arrow, Theodore Bergstrom, John Chipman, Jerry Green, Philip Hartman, Eric Maskin, Stanley Reiter, Marcel Richter, William Thompson, Jan Werner, and Oliver Williamson. Arranged alphabetically by last name.
