A photocopied envelope originally containing these clippings bears an explanation from Bell that his work on Attica "prodded" his social conscience, and led him to investigate and write about topics such as immigrants' rights, unethical practices in the tobacco, ethanol, and pharmaceutial industries, and corrupt political practices in the U.S.
