Contains drawings, paintings, sketches, and photograps of medical illustrations, many of which are signed by Dorothy Whitlock. These images include a variety of media, including brushed graphite paint, watercolor, graphite pencil, and photographic prints. Sizes range from 8x11" to larger panels.

Dorothy Whitlock papers, 1948-1989 and undated 1.5 Linear Feet Approx. 300 Items

Occupational therapist and medical illustrator active in Utah and North Carolina. The Dorothy Whitlock Papers span the dates 1948-1989 and derive from Whitlock's work as an occupational therapist and medical illustrator. The collection contains visual materials which include image files and loose images of medical illustrations in a variety of media, including but not limited to watercolor, graphite pencil, brushed graphite paint, pen and ink drawings, photographs of etchings, and photographs. The images include but are not limited to portrayals of various medical procedures, conditions, techniques, and tools. The collection also contains papers related to Whitlock's time as an occupational therapist at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in Oteen, North Carolina, and papers related to her interest in and work on tuberculosis. Acquired as part of the History of Medicine Collections at Duke University.

Propaganda leaflets for the Pacific Area, approximately 1944-1945

This folder mainly contains propaganda leaflets created by the U.S. Army Psychological Warfare Branch for distribution in the Pacific, as well as information sheets detailing the languages, target audiences, and description of images and text in the leaflets, including English translations of the texts. Most of the leaflets target Japanese soldiers and civilians, with two leaflets intended for residents of Formosa (Taiwan). There are also some propaganda materials in Tok Pisin and examples of propaganda from Japan. Includes PWB Formosa leaflets numbers 1-FO-1 and 2-FO-1, and PWB Japan leaflet numbers 2-J-1, 4-J-1 through 6-J-1, 9-J-1, 10-J-1, 12-J-1 through 16-J-1, 26-J-1 through 30-J-1, and 32-J-1.

Includes German (Frontpost), English (The Harbinger of Freedom, The Fellowship of Reconciliation, Army Talks), Dutch (The Flying Dutchman), and French (Voir) propaganda newletters and magazines, some in English translations; a Red Cross leaflet for the registration of prisoners of wars; as well as one Finnish, one Russian, and one Burmese leaflet. Also contains a 1942 pamphlet "'Time' Out of Joint," by Augustus L. Richards, which criticizes Time Magazine for publishing what Richards considered unpatriotic attacks on Roosevelt and the American war effort.

The collection contains examples of propaganda and other nationalistically-motivated publications distributed during World War II. It includes pro-Allied, anti-Allied, pro-Axis, and anti-Axis propaganda leaflets and broadsides that were distributed in Europe and the Pacific war zones with the aim of damaging enemy morale and sustaining the morale of the occupied countries. Also includes a set of Special Service I.B.S. posters warning soldiers against venereal disease.
