Team Detroit records, 2004-2009 3.0 Linear Feet

Team Detroit was a joint project formed by segments of six WPP agencies in 2006 to focus on advertising and marketing primarily for Ford Motor Company products. Its headquarters were in Dearborn, Michigan. In 2016 Team Detroit became part of WPP bespoke agency GTB. Collection includes marketing plans, research reports, sample advertisements, direct-to-consumer mailings, and launch details for a variety of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Cadillac vehicles. Topics addressed include customer loyalty, digital media, and women car buyers. Companies and brands represented include Cadillac, Ford, J. Walter Thompson Company, Infiniti (Nissan), Lexus, Lincoln, Mercury, Meredith, Microsoft, and Young & Rubicam. Acquired as part of the John W. Terrasson Brothers records, 1773-1869, bulk 1780-1860 2.5 Linear Feet (1245 items)

Collection contains the records of the firm of Terrasson Brothers, established in Philadelphia by Antoine and Barthelemy Terrasson as a branch of their father's firm, John Terrasson and Company, headquartered in Paris and Lyons, France. Early business letters reflect the trade of the firm in grain, the furnishings of supplies to the French and American armies, and the purchase of tobacco at various places throughout the South. The letters contain information on the American Revolution, especially on naval operations, and on post-Revolutionary business conditions. Papers after 1800 concern the family of Mark Prager, members of which apparently married into the Terrasson family. Prager was owner of a trading firm in Holland. These papers contain information on Prager's trading activities until 1820, and on the family of Harriet Prager of Philadelphia. The later letters contain references to family affairs, slavery, politics and sectionalism. Approximately 100 Civil War letters describe conditions in the North.

Terry Sanford and the New South, a documentary by filmmaker Thomas Lennon, examines Sanford's governorship in North Carolina during the Civil Rights movement and his vision of a New South. Sanford was governor of North Carolina, 1961-1965, and also served as President of Duke University, 1969-1985. This accession (2009-0169) (5.0 lin. ft.; 2000 items; dated 2000-2005) includes digital videotapes and duplicates from the production of Terry Sanford and the New South, as well as research notes, production notes and timelines, an index of filed images, and subject files for images used in the film. Terry Sanford papers, 1926-1996 228.6 Linear Feet

The Terry Sanford Papers document Sanford's career as a United States Senator from North Carolina from 1986 to 1992. The collection contains papers dated from 1926-1992, with the bulk of the material dated between 1986 and 1992. His senatorial campaigns, views on issues, interactions with constituents, and activities in committees of which he was a member are documented throughout the collection. Sanford served on the following U. S. Senate committees: Select Committee on Ethics (Chair); Special Committee on Aging; Budget; Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, including the Subcommittee on International Finance and Monetary Policy and Subcommittee on Securities; and Foreign Relations, including Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs (Chair), Subcommittee on African Affairs, and Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere and Peace Corps Affairs.

Terry Schooley is a feminist organizer, teacher, and former Delaware state representative. She was a leader in the National Organization for Women and served as Coordinator of the North Carolina ERA Countdown Campaign. This collection consists of Schooley's North Carolina ERA Countdown Campaign report (1982); clippings and publicity about the Equal Rights Amendment ratification campaign; photographs and ephemera collected from various marches, events, and outreach encouraging ERA ratification by North Carolina; and some related materials and correspondence from Eleanor Smeal and Governor Jim Hunt. The Chronicle is Duke's independent, student-run news publication. Originally financed by the Columbian and Hesperian Literary Societies, the newspaper is currently (2007) completely independent of the University, and funded entirely by advertising revenue. Materials in the collection include letters to the editors, correspondence, submitted material, awards, illustrations, historical documents and notes, schedules, calendars, reports, flyers, forms, surveys and questionnaires, meeting minutes, and releases. The materials date from 1904-2000, the bulk of which is from 1950-1970.

The Duke University Currency collection, 1746-1982 4 Linear Feet 4,896 Items

The Currency Collection contains 4896 pieces, 1746-1982, of which all except a small number of coins and tokens are paper currency. Most of this money is domestic, but there are a limited number of foreign items, some of them quite old and interesting. Approximately two-thirds of the collection dates from the Civil War and one-fourth from the antebellum period.

Manufacturer of tobacco products, founded in 1873 in St. Louis, Mo.; now headquartered in Morrisville, N.C. Collection includes financial records; clippings; scrapbooks; ledgers; print advertisements and posters; point of sale displays; scripts of radio and television commercials; audiovisual materials (film reels, videocassettes, DVDs); photographs, memorabilia and other materials that document primarily Liggett's marketing of tobacco products during the 20th century. Brands represented include: Chesterfield, Eve, Fatima, Home Run, L&M, Lark, Piedmont, and Spur. Advertisements for non-tobacco products, including alcoholic beverages and watch bands, are also present, and reflect a period of Liggett's product diversification. The Memory Project Oral History collection | 民间记忆计划口述史, 2009-2016 3799 Gigabytes

The Memory Project Oral History collection comprises digital video recordings and written supporting documentation of interviews spanning 2009 to 2016. The interviews were conducted by filmmakers associated with the Work Station, a film studio run by Wu Wenguang in Caochangdi, Beijing, China. Memory Project interviews were conducted with Chinese people about mid-20th century rural life, primarily experiences during the Great Famine (1958-1961), but also the Land Reform and Collectivization (1949-1953), the Great Leap Forward (1958-1960), the Four Cleanups Movement (1964), and the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). Wu's studio in suburban Beijing, known as the Work Station, is the home for this project. More than 150 young filmmakers have joined the project, and since 2010 they have visited 246 villages in 20 provinces and interviewed more than 1,100 elderly villagers. These filmmakers, many of whom returned to their families' rural hometowns, developed new intergenerational relationships with elderly relatives. During the process of interviewing the villagers, they reconciled the official history taught in schools with each family's experiences.

Theodore D. Segal received his undergraduate degree from Duke in 1977. As a student, Segal began studying Black and white student activism of the 1960s and continued after he retired from practicing law. This research resulted in his book, Point of Reckoning: The Fight for Racial Justice at Duke University, published in 2021. This collection contains papers and audio recordings related to Segal's research related to student activism and his book. Materials in the collection include oral history interview transcripts and recordings, surveys, notes, and articles.

Theodore W. "Ted" Minah records and papers, 1941-1975 41.4 Linear Feet

Theodore W. "Ted" Minah, was the Director of Duke University Dining Halls from 1946-1974. Over his 28 years at Duke, Minah worked hard to serve the best quality food at as low a price as possible without incurring deficit to the University. By his retirement in 1974, Minah had transformed the dining halls at Duke University from a small operation to an operation of 12 dining halls serving approximately 15,000 meals per day. Materials in the collection include administrative records, work and purchase orders, food pricing, menus, financial and statistical reports, job descriptions, survey results, banquet logs, blueprints, union handbooks, black and white and color photographs, and other materials documenting the activities of the Duke University Dining Halls and the Director of Dining Halls.

Activist and union organizer who was involved with the Coalition of Labor Union Women, the Service Employees International Union, the Black Radical Congress, the Black Workers for Justice, Jobs with Justice, Solidarity, and the Durham NAACP. El-Amin was also a founding member of the Labor Party and the Southern Anti-Racism Network. Collection includes organizational and subject files from El-Amin's years of activism and organizing in the Service Employees International Union, the Black Radical Congress, the Southern Anti-Racism Network, and numerous other groups and causes. Collection comprises primarily invoices and book claims and requests, along with correspondence, company balance sheets, flyers, booklists, and catalogs, literary proposals and prospectuses, and other printed and manuscript materials related to the bookselling and publishing activities of The Tenth Muse. Much of the material is routine in nature and documents day-to-day work. Includes a folder of letters to and from Isabel Fraire, along with partial translations from the Spanish of her poems. Also contains letters or other material from poets and authors Bill Bissett, Robert Duncan, Tom Clark, and Tom Pickard. There is a copy of Lynn Lonidier’s manuscript for the second part of “A Lesbian Estate.” Among the catalogs is a Shameless Hussy Press catalog, with a handwritten note from poet and publisher Alta Gerrey on the front cover, as well as two 20-page copies of Ganglia Press Index, 1972, compiled by B. P. Nichol, with handwritten comments. Many items feature handwritten dates and notes.

The United Family Gazette and envelope, 1840-1895 0.1 Linear Feet

Collection comprises a handwritten copy of the Gazette (11 pgs, handstitched), plus an envelope. The Gazette contained a personal and detailed account of the marriage of Charlotte Elizabeth Octavia Collinson (1817-1850) to Charles Stansfield Rawson (1812-1863). The writer of the account was unidentified, but was probably one of Collinson's sisters. There are sections on the bridesmaids, ceremony, cake, wedding breakfast, and other celebrations, as well as desciptions of various family members. Rawson lived at Nether Wasdale, Cumberland, and married Charlotte at Boldon Church on Feb. 18, 1840. Later, two of their sons went to Queensland, where they made a fortune in ranching and pioneered the settlement of Mckay. The envelope, postmarked 1895, is illustrated and addressed to E. Rawson, Imperial Hotel, Brisbane, Queensland.

Collection comprises Lola Frances Wilson Smith's 920-page typescript autobiography, including Wilson and Carroll family history, focusing on the period between 1909, when her parents married, and 1944, when she gave birth to her first child. Includes an additional 36 pages of introductory material where Smith describes herself. Smith accompanies her narrative with hand-drawn maps and illustrations or photocopies of illustrative material from other sources. She also includes copies of documents (marriage licenses, government documents, certificates, etc.) obituaries, genealogical charts, newspaper articles, family photographs, and private letters. Pages 885 to 920 are included as representative of Smith's working draft for the piece.

John Moses, a professor of pediatrics at Duke University, spent eleven years documenting teenage parents in North Carolina counties, including Durham and Orange. Jocelyn Lee is a professor at the Maine College of Art and worked for six years in parts of Texas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, and Nova Scotia, living and working with young mothers. Collection of 24 gelatin silver prints from an exhibit, The Youngest Parents: Teenage Pregnancy as it Shapes Lives, displayed at Duke University's Center for Documentary Studies in 1998.

Third Side Press, a feminist publisher of women's health and lesbian fiction books, was founded in 1991 and ceased active publication in 1998. It was dissolved as a corporation in 2003. During the years of active publication, Third Side Press produced between 20 and 25 titles, mostly in paperback, including top sellers such as CANCER AS A WOMEN'S ISSUE and THE WOMAN-CENTERED ECONOMY. Midge Stocker is the founder and publisher of Third Side Press. Materials include correspondence, financial records, book proofs and files, book reviews, and other records relating to the operation of Third Side Press publishing house. Also includes copies of several Third Side Press publications. Floppy disks and other electronic materials have been removed for preservation. Thomas Cripps papers, 1839-2009 and undated bulk 1940s-2009 98 Linear Feet

Professor of history at Morgan State University, scholar of the history of African Americans in the motion picture industry, prolific author of books and articles on the subject, and script writer. The papers of Thomas Cripps date from 1839 to 2009, and are arranged into three divisions: films, photographic stills of African American actors and productions, and professional papers, the largest group. Taken as a whole, the films, movie stills, research files, and publication files document Cripps's investigations into representations of racial and ethnic stereotypes in popular culture, particularly in film, but also touch on other issues such as gender in popular culture, portrayal of race in Nazi Germany, and the social dimensions of African American life in the U.S. during the 20th century. Other materials stem from college-level courses taught by Cripps on these same topics, and include many of the visual resources he used in his classes. Acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts at Duke University.

Thomas Dixon Jr. (1864-1946) was a white supremacist, novelist, playwright, and clergyman, originally from North Carolina. Dixon authored The Leopard's Spots (1902) and The Clansman (1905), which later was adapted into D. W. Griffith's film The Birth of a Nation (1915). This collection contains literary drafts of his plays and novels, some correspondence, and other legal materials and photographs.

Thomas D. Kimball papers, 1851-1867 1.5 Linear Feet 650 items

The papers of Thomas D. Kimball span the period 1851 to 1867 with the majority of the papers dating from 1862 to 1865. They consist primarily of official communications and documents relating to Company A, 2d Massachusetts Heavy Artillery and Company G., 51st Massachusetts Volunteer Militia Infantry, during the period they were occupying New Bern, N.C., after its capture by Union troops. Kimball was Captain first in the 51st Regiment and later in the 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery Regiment. The collection is divided into five series: correspondence; financial papers; orders; regimental reports; and miscellany.

Thomas E. Dixon papers, 1967-1993 18 Linear Feet

Thomas E. Dixon was a Duke University administrator from the 1970s through the early 1990s, holding the positions of Associate University Controller, Controller and Co-director of Human Resources, Associate Vice President for Administrative Services, and Vice President for Administrative Services (1989-1993). The Thomas E. Dixon Papers, 1967-1993, contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, meeting agendas and minutes, and other materials that document Thomas Dixon's tenure as Vice President for Administrative Services and other positions he held at Duke University from the late 1970s through the early 1990s. Records mainly consist of subject files pertaining to operations of non-academic divisions of the university, including Auxiliary Services, the Facilities Management Department, the Office of Human Resources, and the Telecommunications Division (Tel-Com). Also represented are committees with which Dixon was involved, including the President's Advisory Committee on Resources, the Safety Task Force, and the Committee on Social Implications of Duke's Investment Policy. Other materials include minutes of several committees of the Duke University Board of Trustees and a variety of reports, plans, and blueprints about the construction and opening of the Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club in 1980s.

Thomas Ellison Keitt was a resident of Clemson, Oconee County, South Carolina. Collection comprises papers of the Wadlington, Bauskett, and Keitt familes of Newberry County, South Carolina. Among the papers are records belonging to Thomas Bauskett, a planter, and J. L. Keitt, a farmer, attorney, and state legislator. Documents include legal and financial papers and volumes; personal correspondence; speeches and pamphlets; and genealogical materials. Topics in the correspondence sometimes touch on slave sales and purchases, cotton mills, smallpox, and refer to life in Charleston, South Carolina. There are also Civil War letters of Ellison Summerfield Keitt, captain in the 29th Regiment of S.C. Troops and later the 19th S.C.
