This collection includes 39 photographic prints comprising the series Aunties, by Nadia Sablin, the 2014 CDS/Honickman First Book Prize in Photography Award Winner. Aunties is a series of photographs detailing the lives of two unmarried sisters living in a Russian village.

Vita Sackville-West papers, 1953-1961 and undated 0.1 Linear Feet (7 items)

The collection consists of five typescript letters, one photocopied Encyclopedia Britannica article regarding Sackville-West's book "Aphara Behn" in the "Representative Women" series, along with a poem. The first letter, one page addressed to Sackville-West, dated 1953 May 22, signed "A. Purvis," discusses the birthplace and date of Aphra Behn. A photocopy of the Encyclopedia Britannica article on Behn is included. A typescript note dated 18 July, 1961, signed V. Sackville-West on Sissinghurst letterhead, was written in response to a letter from Sylvia Haymon about Aphra Behn, and Sackville-West's article on Behn in the Encyclopedia Britannica. Included are copies of three letters, all dated 1961, sent to Sylvia Haymon, two to Sackville-West, and one to Miss J. Parfitt, Acting Editor of the Women's Page of The Times in London. The topics of the undated, one-page "Diary-Poem" have to do with Sackville-West's loss of her given name upon her marriage to Harold Nicolson in 1913, and the loss of Knole, her family's estate in Kent, in 1928 because of patriarchal inheritance laws.

Allan Todd Sagraves papers, 1960-1976 and undated 2.0 Linear Feet

Todd Sagraves was Professor Emiritus of Business Education at Central Connecticut State University. Collection consists primarily of 16mm films and film clips of television commercials, along with explanatory documentation for two films, How to Sell Creatively (produced by Dartnell Corporation) and Television Advertising Commercials (edited by Sagraves), and other printed materials. Companies represented in the collection include Beech-Nut, Bristol-Myers, Coca-Cola, Colgate, General Foods, Datsun (Nissan), Nestle, Procter & Gamble, Sara Lee and the Television Bureau of Advertising. Haruka Sakaguchi photographs, 2020 May 2.0 Gigabytes (20 files (10 .tif, 10 .doc))

Haruka Sakaguchi is a Japanese-born freelance documentary photographer currently residing in New York City. Her project, "'I Will Not Stand Silent.' 10 Asian Americans Reflect on Racism During the Pandemic and the Need for Equality" addresses pandemic-fueled racism against Asian Americans. Created by Sakaguchi in collaboration with TIME photo editors Sangsuk Sylvia Kang and Katherine Harris Pomerantz, the black-and-white digital photographs and accompanying textual accounts tell the stories of ten young Asian Americans who share their experiences of racism during the pandemic and how their perspectives have been shaped by the Black Lives Matter protests. Each person's project entry consists of a first-person account in Word file format and a digital image file in Tiff format showing a portrait of the individual laid atop a larger photograph of the location in New York City where they were harassed. Acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts at Duke University.

Eva J. Salber papers, 1937-1990 17.1 Linear Feet circa 12,930 Items

The Salber Papers span the years 1937 to 1990, with the bulk of the papers dating from 1967 to 1990. The collection contains correspondence; financial papers; writings and speeches; clippings; photographs, many by Dominic D'Eustachio; reports; minutes; scrapbooks; training manuals; student papers; printed material; and lecture notes chiefly relating to Salber's publications, teaching career, and work as a community health physician. Publications highlighted include Caring and Curing(New York, N.Y., 1975) ; Don't Send Me Flowers When I'm Dead (Durham, N.C., 1983) , containing interviews with the rural elderly in Durham County, N.C.; and The Mind is Not the Heart(Durham, N.C., 1989) . Her work in the community health field is documented primarily in her writings, the papers about the Martha M. Eliot Family Health Center, and the Health Facilitator Program, which was administered through the Duke University Medical Center Department of Community and Family Medicine. Outgrowths of the Health Facilitator Program are featured in the information about the Health and Human Services Program of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Other topics include smoking research among young people, teacher and student relationships, and the financing of community health service projects. The collection contains few personal papers and little information about Salber prior to 1967. Explanatory notes by Salber scattered throughout the collection offer insights rarely available in manuscript collections.

"Searching for Butterflies" field recording and photographs, 2018-2025 329.3 Megabytes (24 files)

"Searching for Butterflies" field recording and photographs depicts the work of Mudar Salimeh, a geologist and artist from Latakia, Syria, and his effort to document butterflies and moths in the area. Consists of one audio file of Salimeh's field recordings produced by Nanne Hauge Kristensen, an audio arist and anthropologist from Denmark; 22 image files with photographs of butterflies and moths; and one text file that includes identification information for the species photographed by Salimeh. Acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts.

Yusuf Salim collection, circa 1982-1987 and undated 0.6 Linear Feet (41 items)

Yusuf Salim (1929-2008) was a jazz musician and composer who began his career in Baltimore in the 1940s. He moved to Durham, North Carolina in the 1970s where he taught jazz workshops through the Salaam Cultural Center and hosted a series on WUNC-TV. The collection contains manuscripts of 36 lead sheets for Salim's jazz compositions, a piece of prose by Salim, and a photocopy of an article about him from the Raleigh News and Observer.

Equal Rights Amendment collection, 1933-1948 0.25 Linear Feet (1 box)

The Equal Rights Amendment is an amendment proposed to the United States Constitution which would seek to guarantee equal rights to all American citizens regardless of their sex. It was first proposed in Congress in 1923 by Alice Paul and Crystal Eastman, and was reintroduced at every congressional session until it was finally passed by the 92nd Congress in 1972. This collection consists of printed materials and circulated literature both supporting and opposing early iterations of the Equal Rights Amendment, largely dating from the 1930s-1940s.

Women's and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Movements (LGBT) periodicals collection, 1957-2017 62.5 Linear Feet

Since the 1960s, and particularly after the Stonewall uprising of 1969, the modern women's rights and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights movements (LGBT) have produced their own magazines, journals, newspapers, and newsletters as a strategy for unifying and galvanizing their constituencies. These periodicals served to inform movement activists about pertinent actions, news stories, and cultural trends unreported by the mainstream media. The Women's and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Periodicals Collection comprises individual issues of periodicals produced by or reporting on organizations involved in the women's rights and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights movements of the late twentieth century and early twenty-first century. Bill Brown zine collection, 1981-2011, 1981-2011, bulk 1990-2005 4.8 Linear Feet (271 items)

Bill Brown is a filmmaker, photographer, and zinester from Lubbock, Texas. His films explore the landscapes of North America, including the United States–Mexico border, North Dakota missile silos, and the Trans-Canada Highway, and have been exhibited at film festivals and museums around the world. He received a BFA from Harvard in 1992 and a MFA from CalArts in 1997. Brown is the author of a zine called Dream Whip as well as a novel on the underground in L.A., Saugus to the Sea. In January 2013, Bill Brown donated his personal collection of zines, comprising 186 titles and almost 250 issues in total. Although Brown never actively collected zines, he was always eager to barter and trade with other zine makers. The resulting collection includes zines spanning from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s. The zines are arranged alphabetically by title.

Leah Fritz (1932-2020) was an American feminist poet and author born in New York. She wrote the books Thinking Like a Woman (1975) and Dreamers and Dealers (1980), focusing on the women's movement. The Leah Fritz papers contain correspondence and subject files; writings, including notebooks and diaries, drafts, published articles, and papers related to the publication of Fritz's prose writings, poetry, and book and article reviews; and audiocassettes of presentations and poetry readings by Fritz and other recordings. Materials range in date from circa 1950 to 2009. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.

World War II propaganda collection, 1939-1945 0.5 Linear Feet 400 items

The collection contains examples of propaganda and other nationalistically-motivated publications distributed during World War II. It includes pro-Allied, anti-Allied, pro-Axis, and anti-Axis propaganda leaflets and broadsides that were distributed in Europe and the Pacific war zones with the aim of damaging enemy morale and sustaining the morale of the occupied countries. Also includes a set of Special Service I.B.S. posters warning soldiers against venereal disease.
