Collection consists of seventeen glossy 8x10 inch black-and-white photographs of tourist destinations and activities in Haiti, marked on the versos with the associated name of the Haiti Tourist Bureau in New York City, established sometime around 1950. These images served as visual components for the island's 1950s tourism campaigns, and show white tourists in various posed scenes, visiting handicraft shops and outdoor markets, riding donkeys, enjoying the beach, and watching folkloric dances. There are also several views of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and smaller towns such as Cap-Haïtien, as well as resorts, beaches, town streets, and mountainsides. Noted Haitian photographer Edouard Peloux's name appears on a print signed "Ed. Peloux, 19-7-53." The rest are unsigned and undated. Several of the photographs appear in a 1955 publication, "A Guide to Haiti, Star of the Caribbean," also by the Haiti Tourist Bureau.

Hubert H. and Leona T. Hayes were actors, authors, and partners in the founding and production of the Mountain Youth Jamboree music and dance festival in Asheville, N.C. (1940s-1973). Collection comprises personal and business correspondence; plays, stories, articles, and minstrel scripts written by Hubert Hayes and others, as well as publicity, ephemera, production records, and photographs relating to the Asheville, N.C. Mountain Youth Jamboree (1940s-1973), to programs at Asheville's City Auditorium; and to the production of Hayes' outdoor drama about Daniel Boone, Thunderland, and plays such as Tight Britches. There are also photographs, chiefly black-and-white, of family and friends, actors in blackface, the Trinity College (Durham, N.C.) football team in 1922 or 1923, author Thomas Wolfe, 1937, and entertainers of the time. Other materials include a photograph album of Hubert's youth (1920s), and many scrapbooks documenting Humbert and Leona's theater and entertainment work, and Leona Hayes's career and her close association with Duke University Libraries and its director, Benjamin Powell. The materials speak to the history of Asheville, N.C., western N.C. life and social customs, and Appalachian and African American cultures as expressed in popular entertainment of the 1920s-1960s.

The Master of Fine Arts in Experimental and Documentary Art degree program at Duke University has been awarded since 2013. Collection houses MFA/EDA theses submitted by graduates of the program, in the form of typescripts; handmade books; digital video and audio, three-dimensional artwork; photobooks; photographic prints; digital still images; and film of multi-media performances. Subjects range widely and include: U.S. and Southern cultures; world cultures; street photography; childhood; environmental narratives and documentaries; city and rural communities; themes of social justice, memory, and identity; women and spirituality; and abstract constructs. Other places documented include China, Poland, Vietnam, and the Middle East. Acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts at Duke University.

“El Muqui” is a folkloric character in the Andean mines who is highly respected, even feared, by

San Francisco-based photographer Paccarik Orue was born and raised in Lima, Peru. His series "El Muqui" won the 2016 ADA Collection Award for Documentarians of Color. "El Muqui" comprises 40 color photographs taken between 2012 and 2014 in the Peruvian mining city Cerro de Pasco. The photographs document life in the city, which "due to economic interests and expansion of the mine, [is] doomed to disappear." He writes "it was essential to find myself and reconnect with my Peruvian roots and heritage...and gives me the opportunity to continue making work of social relevance."

YURUMEIN (your-o-main) is an important UNTOLD STORY of Carib/Garifuna resistance against slavery that deserves its place in the annals of the African Diaspora. The film recounts the painful past of the Caribs on St Vincent and the extermination of scores of their ancestors at the hands of the British, while building an intimate portrait of Garifuna culture in-transition today. We are given firsthand accounts from both Carib descendants who remain on the island of St Vincent and voices of returning descendants whose ancestors were exiled to Central America—where Garifuna traditional culture was able to survive and flourish.When members of the Diaspora are first reunited and make a collective pilgrimage to the sacred site of Balliceaux (where the genocide occurred) the film reveals the beginnings of a movement among Garifuna people to revitalize traditional language, music, dance, and ritual. This scene features the Garifuna National Folkloric Ballet of Honduras. As Garifuna from around the world come together to remember and celebrate the lives and resilience of their shared ancestors, they also begin to discover possibility and hope for the future of Garifuna culture and a greater worldwide community. James Sprunt had very extensive correspondence files, of which only a small portion has survived. A year's letters were subdivided alphabetically and included both the incoming originals and the outgoing copies. The years represented by a sizeable body of papers are 1904, 1906, 1909-1910, and 1919-1921, but they are probably quite incomplete. All of the papers have been arranged chronologically. The series also contains "other papers," which cannot be identified with their original files. Most of the material came from James Sprunt's files.

These images from one of India's largest and most ancient cities were taken by Gedney from 1969 to 1971 as part of a project funded by a Fulbright Fellowhip for Photography. Also included in this series is a sequence of photographs taken at the beginning of Gedney's trip in the old city neighborhoods of New Delhi.
