Biographical / historical:

Madeline Ross was a chemical engineer who served as Technical Editor, Assistant Director and a member of the Board of Directors at Consumers Union. Ross was born in 1915 in Hungary and emigrated to the United States as a child. She joined Consumers Union in 1938 and was named Technical Editor in 1939. Ross was elected to the Board of Directors in 1943 and served as editor of Consumer Reports and provided expert testimony to government agencies until her retirement in 1957. She died in California in 1965.

Acquisition information:
The Consumer Reports. Madeline Ross papers were received by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book Manuscript Library as a gift in 2019.
