The Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) was founded in 1965, with seed funding from the United States Atomic Energy Commission. Hosted on the campus of Duke University, TUNL is a collaboration between four universities in the Research Triangle, North Carolina: Duke, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. TUNL's mission is "to advance the frontiers of nuclear physics and to educate students and young scientists to that they can contribute to society across a wide range of technical fields, including nuclear physics."
