Edwin L. and Terry A. Murray, brothers residing in Durham, N.C., have been collectors of comic books and other pulp culture for forty years. The Murray Fanzine Collection contains approximately 1150 comic book, science fiction and fantasy fanzines, collected by Edwin and Terry Murray, representing fandom in these genres from the early 1950s to 2019, as well as advertisements for fandom gatherings and conventions. The collection is organized into one series that is loosely separated into two sections: the first, and larger, consists of comic book fanzines ranging from the beginning of comic book fandom in the early 1960s to the retrospective volumes published in the early 2000s. The fanzines include reviews, advertisements and commentary, as well as biographical information on a variety of artists and writers, including Carl Barks, R. Crumb, Will Eisner, Steven King, Jack Kirby and Stan Lee. Though an assortment of superhero and comic strip characters published by DC, Dell and Marvel Comics, among others, are cited, one character in particular, Donald Duck, recieves more attention than the others. The second section consists of a sampling of science fiction and fantasy fanzines (including fantasy fiction) ranging from 1952 to the early 1980s, including information on artists and writers such as Vaughn Bode and Harlon Ellison. Most of the fanzines in the collection were printed independent of large scale publishing techniques, utilizing ditto, mimeograph, hectograph and, later, photocopy, on paper of varying degrees of quality. There are also three additional accessions (2010-0107, 2019-0078, 2019-0103), which have been minimally processed.

Edwin Burmeister is Research Professor Emeritus of Economics at Duke University. This collection documents his professional life through his correspondence, writings, research, and professional and faculty activities. It forms part of the Economists' Papers Archive.

Lawyer and North Carolina legislator, from Salisbury (Rowan Co.), North Carolina. Papers, primarily legal, business, and political correspondence, of Gregory and of his father-in-law, Lee Slater Overman, lawyer and U.S. Senator from North Carolina. Gregory's papers give much information on his career in the North Carolina Senate and relate to such topics as agriculture, gold mining, public aid, and public libraries. A majority of the papers before 1930 pertain to Overman's service in the U.S. Senate (1903-1930) and refer to such events as the North Carolina senatorial contest of 1902, the Espionage Acts of 1914 and 1915, and Alfred E. Smith's 1928 presidential campaign in North Carolina. Includes letters of Margaret Overman Gregory relating to her activities in charitable foundations and the American Red Cross about the time of World War I. Correspondents include Josiah W. Bailey, Josephus Daniels, Frank P. Graham, and Sam Rayburn.

Merchant, of Weldon (Halifax Co.), N.C. Records and business correspondence of a general merchant of Weldon, N.C., together with daybooks (1880-1918) and ledgers (1878). Also includes a letter from Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va., concerning a son in college; and a letter from an instructor at Oak Ridge Military Institute, Guilford Co., N.C. (1917).

Edwin Grant Conklin was a biologist and an educator. Collection contains chiefly family and professional correspondence. Includes letters addressed to Conklin; to his wife, Belle Adkinson Conklin, and to other family members. The majority of letters are written by Conklin and his wife, parents, and children. Conklin's correspondence with wife Belle pertains largely to their dating courtship. There are lettters from other relatives, friends, academic and scientific colleagues, Freedmen, educators, and Methodist clergymen.

Official observer of the atomic bomb test in Bikini, Marshall Islands, July 1, 1946. Former secretary-general, general manager, president, and chairman of the board of J. A. Jones Construction Co. of Charlotte, N.C. Consists of correspondence, addresses and writings, legal and financial papers, clippings, printed materials, photographs, memorabilia, diaries, and scrapbooks related to Edwin Lee Jones and members of his family, including his father, daughter, son, wife, and brothers. Topics include the activities of the J. A. Jones Construction Company, Duke University student life, the Methodist Church, the Marshall Islands atom bomb tests, ship-building in WWII, and the military career of Edwin's son in the Marine Corps on Parris Island, SC, and in other schools in the South. Although most of the pictures are of the Jones family, there are also photographs relating to an awards ceremony held in honor of J. A. Jones Construction Co.'s prodigious production of "liberty ships" during WWII. The writings and addresses and printed materials document Jones's activities with various religious and philanthropic organizations, while the volumes include a travel journal, as well as several scrapbooks and ledgers recording Jones's personal expenditures from 1918 to 1959. Numerous legal and financial papers pertain to the settling of Jones's estate following his death in 1971. Addition includes letters (5 items; dated 1946) written by Jones describing the preparations for the atomic bomb test and the effects of the explosions on Bikini and Kwajalein atolls.

Edwin Peacock was co-owner (with John Zeigler) of the Book Basement in Charleston, S.C. This collection largely consists of letters (some copies) to Edwin Peacock and John Zeigler, chiefly regarding their friend, author Carson McCullers. Many letters are from translators and biographers of McCullers (Virginia Carr, Jacques Tournier, and Robert Duparc). It includes letters from both Carson and Reeves McCullers to Peacock and Zeigler as well as copies of the McCullers letters to each other while Reeves served in the armed forces in France during World War II. Some letters were written by Carson McCullers to Peacock during her stays at Yaddo. The collection also includes playbills of McCullers' plays, reviews of her books and plays, and other printed material concerning her as well as 56 photographs of the McCullers, their family, and their friends.

E.F. (Everett) Bleiler was a novelist, editor, and scholar of science fiction and fantasy literature; he was the author of The Checklist of Fantastic Literature. This collection of original annotated typescripts from circa 1947-1949 relates to the compilation, editing and publication of the Checklist, and consists of the prefatory material, as well as substantial portions of the checklist as prepared for publication by Bleiler and Melvin Korshak, co-founder of Shasta Publishers and co-editor of the Checklist. Also includes a few related typescripts and the author-publisher contract from 1949.
