The Duke Association for Business Oriented Women (Duke BOW) was founded about 2007 and is a professional and social community of female undergraduates and alumnae of Duke University which promotes education, experience, and exchange between industry professionals and students interested in business leadership. Duke BOW records include executive meeting agendas and minutes; General Body Meeting materials; event planning documents; photographs of executive board members, general members, and events; alumni correspondence; mentorship programs; the BOW Constitution; newsletters; PowerPoint presentations; resume and interview workshops; and recruitment events.

      Series includes 484 boxed game sets for role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, Al-Qadim, Car Wars, Traveller, James Bond, and Star Trek. A boxed set typically includes maps and grids, character guides, encounter playbooks, a die, and other literature to be used for creating new or altered worlds within a particular game.

        Bradley T. Johnson papers, 1851-1909

        Bradley T. Johnson was a Confederate officer, lawyer, and politician, born in Frederick (Frederick Co.), Maryland who later settled in Virginia after the Civil War. The collection includes correspondence, personal accounts, Civil War reminiscences of campaigns in several states, a memoir of the 1st Maryland Regiment, C.S.A., a muster roll of the 21st Virginia, Company B, records of a Confederate prison hospital, and an incomplete diary of a trip to Cuba as correspondent during the Spanish-American War. Included also are a series of letters from Wade Hampton and from Joseph E. Johnston. Other correspondents include Henry Adams, James Cardinal Gibbons, and Henry Cabot Lodge along with an anonymous April-Dec., 1846 diary, identified with Isaac R. Watkins, law student in Richmond, Va. and son of prosperous Charlotte County family.

        Henry Horenstein photographs, 1967-2013, 2022

        Henry Horenstein is an American photographer, author, teacher, and filmmaker based in Massachusetts. The collection comprises 247 black-and-white and color photographic prints selected from his projects, a large series of about 2500 contact sheets, and a few other related materials. Subjects in the project prints series include Horenstein's family and friends; beachgoers in Havana, Cuba; blues and country musicians, the venues where they play, and their fans; the human body in extreme close-ups; horse and stock car racing; burlesque and drag performers; and historic tri-racial communities in Maryland. Together, the prints and contact sheets offer landscapes, street scenes, storefronts, theaters, highways, museums, concerts, bars, nightlife, fairs, and people and animals in Cuba, Dubai, Germany, Los Angeles, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts and all of New England, Missouri, New York, Paris, Tennessee, Texas, Venezuela, and other places. The dominant format is gelatin silver, with some chromogenic and digital work; print sizes range from 8x10 to 20x24 inches. Acquired as part of the Archive of Documentary Arts at Duke University.

        Branson, 1995, 1997 2 prints

        These color images were taken in the historic Sons of the Pioneers Theater in Branson, Missouri. They were both published in Branson and Shoot What You Love. The prints measure approximately 16x20 inches.

          Brantley York records and papers, 1838 - 1966

          Brantley York was an educator, author, and Methodist clergyman in North Carolina. He organized Union Institute Academy at Brown's Schoolhouse in Randolph Co., N.C. in 1839, which would evolve into Normal College, Trinity College, and later Duke University. York also wrote an English grammar, as well as several other instructional textbooks. The Brantley York Records and Papers contain correspondence, a grade book, certificates, manuscripts, and published works. Modern materials were added to the collection; these include York family genealogical information, as well as clippings about York and his activities. Major subjects include the early history of Union Institute, Normal College, Trinity College and Duke University; education in North Carolina in the 19th century; and the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. English.

          Breyers Ice Cream Company was founded in 1866 in Philadelphia, Penna.; incorporated in 1908. Became division of National Dairy Products Corporation in 1926. Collection comprises a Bryers Ice Cream salesman's catalog (12 pgs.), for the company's ice cream advertising signs, especially those to be placed outside a store or restaurant. The catalog was probably intended for the company's regional distributors, and includes statistics for ice cream sales in the Philadelphia market. Sign descriptions include a color copy of each sign, along with it's size, finish, weight, and illumination, as well as occasional other information, including such considerations as brackets, embossing, packing units, and store type.

The bulk of the collection's materials advertise businesses or services offered by women, including millinery, fancy goods, hair work, tea, painting, teaching, music, bricklaying, gardening, dressmaking, apothecaries, and a clairvoyant. Also includes calling cards and bookplates with women's names, and assorted ephemera relating to women's pay, income, or work, including a pensioner's card for a firefighter's widow and a pamphlet about life insurance for women.

Snyder was a United States Information Agency (USIA) employee from 1956 to 1977 who worked primarily with the Africa Division of the Voice of America radio broadcasting program. Collection contains documents and photographs related to Snyder's work, with a particular focus on a 1959 trip around the African coast and the proposal and construction of the Liberia Relay Station.

                      Collection of fine art print and graphic design projects by Horse & Buggy Press in Durham, North Carolina, commissioned chiefly by non-profit organizations, small firms, individual authors and artists, and community events organizers. Formats include catalogs, broadsides, posters, newsletters, pamphlets and brochures, programs, and jacket and packaging designs for six audio and film recordings. Smaller projects include exhibit and book announcements, business cards, invitations, and menus for local restaurants. Chiefly consists of letterpress work, but there are also examples of offset and digitally printed items. Many projects involved the work of other artists and designers, and many were printed in limited editions. Content often includes poetry, prose excerpts, and quotes. Books and zines printed by Horse & Buggy Press have been separated from this collection and individually described for the Duke University Libraries catalog.

                      A collection of broadsides, chiefly letterpress printed in color, designed by Horse & Buggy Press for local events, individual authors, and for personal keepsakes. Sizes range from roughly 8 x 8 to 16 x 22 inches, with most in larger sizes. Many were printed in limited editions. Arranged chiefly in original order as received.

                        Maji Moto: Dispatches from A Drought, 2012 Box 1

                        An accompaniment to the book of the same name, 2012. Four editions are represented here, each combining a single different photographic image with letterpress text. Giclee printed image, letterpress printed text. 190g William Turner paper. Each broadside was issued in a limited run, and is signed and numbered by the artist: "Dual Text," #24 of 28. "Paternal Care," #14 of 17. "Hazy Tree," #31 of 33. "Dead Giraffe," #3 of 27.

                        Edition of 300. Commissioned by the North Carolina Special Collections Library UNC as part of the conference celebrating the 300th anniversary of explorer John Lawson's trek across the Carolinas. Entirely hand-printed on the letterpress. Half of the edition was printed on machine-made paper, half was printed on hand-made paper produced at Antfarm (cotton fibers).
