As a 2005-2006 academic year Lewis Hine Fellow, Guttman worked with Hope for Children (HFC) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, beginning in January 2006. Hope for Children is a local, non-governmental organization that supports young children affected by HIV/AIDS by ensuring they have access to basic services, such as food, shelter, education, and medical care. HFC's seven group homes are the size of a traditional Ethiopian family (six to eight children) and are headed by a group home mother. Once the children are brought together and given everything they need, HFC steps back to allow them to become a family. Rue spent time in each of Hope for Children's group homes during her nine months in Ethiopia, and her photographs provide a sense of the family life within the group homes and give a face to the statistics within the media about HIV/AIDS orphans. All of the photographs were made by Rue in Ethiopia in 2006 for her project "Love after Loss," and the names of the children have been changed to protect their identities.

The Political Work Series, 1967-2000, contains information about the activities of a variety of political groups with which Shulman was active throughout her career. These groups included anti-war groups, women's liberation and feminist groups (including Redstockings), the PEN Women's Committee, No More Nice Girls, the Women's Action Coalition, Women Against Government Surveillance, and other miscellaneous groups. There are also materials relating to a trip she took to China for the purpose of political and academic research, and a copy of her FBI file and correspondence relating to her retrieval of that file during the late 1970s under the Freedom of Information Act. One of the more interesting and valuable parts of this series is the set of original documents from the women's liberation and feminist movement, which include fliers, manifestos, articles and journals, such as a flier from the 1968 Miss America demonstration and the Redstockings' list of legislative reforms presented to the New York state legislature. Folders are arranged alphabetically.

This series contains slides organized for individual presentations, several with scripts included. The presentations at the start of the series are the most complete. As the list continues, the presentations become less complete (e.g. lacking slides, transcripts, etc.), until only loose slides from presentations are present. The intact presentations at the start of the series were created for a variety of audiences by outdoor executives often as training devices or sales tools for prospective clients. A number of the presentations were put together by the Institute of Outdoor Advertising, the marketing arm of the industry. The scripts and slides provide a mix of information not found in other series, including an introduction to the medium, comparisons to other advertising media, and history of the industry.
